FAO Techy types

My laptop has just went mental and the key configuration has completely changed. I get the feeling i've hit a couple of keys at the same time and turned on some bizzare key combination. Some of them work but with different letters, some work with different symbols and some don't work at all. Does anyone know what i've done and how to fix it?

I'd usually post this in the techy help forum but i've got an essay on there which I saved but I can't get access to. Muggins here thought turning it off may solve the issue and now i'm locked out of my 'pewta :D Oh, and I need to have it done for the'morra.

Many thanks in advance

Reet, out of all the letter keys U, I, O, P, K, L and M are not working at all. J brings up X rather than a J. The rest are fine so it seems to just be those that are designated a number when Num Lock is turned on. I've tinkered with that but it doesn't make a difference.

I also get the feeling some of the fuction keys are mixed up but i'm not sure.

Control Panel > Accessibility Options >Keyboard tab

make sure that none of the boxes are checked. Click the Settings button on all three and make sure that Use shortcut is not checked.

Also try holding the Num Lock key down for 5 seconds.

Cheers for your suggestions Pud. Unofunately i'm using Vista which seems have replaced Accessability Options with something else. I've looked on the Ease of Access menu but that doesn't seem to have any of the options. Any idea how to get onto Accessability Options on Vista if it still exists?

I've did literally everything. One of my mates is a bit of a whizz with Computers and he's stumped.

It is an Advent and i've heard of numerous problems regarding the fittings on hardware etc so it may be a bit more than justa dodgy setting.
