Fop 1
Although I shudder to think what Bramble would have been like this season with the pressure and way we'd been playing for most of it. He could have genuinely been a one man relegation push.
Guest alex
shocking player. i often wonder how different things might have been under sir bobby if we didn't have titus and o'brien at the back. a solid back four with the players in front of them and we might have done even better than 3rd-5th finishes this is true, I wonder why Bobby was so good at spotting talent like Robert, Bellamy Bernard etc. but lousy at defensive players? Woodgate was alright To be honest, Robson probably made more poor signings than good ones. All over the pitch too, not just at the back. Well arguably so does Ferguson, just he tends to be operating at a level where he can sell on his mistakes/not good enoughs for a reasonable amount. But I wouldn't blame Robson for Bramble, to be fair he looked like an unpolished and cut diamond initially, and when here would put some decent (even great on occasion) performances..... before letting everything down with utterly stupid mistakes that were usually very costly. The thing that amazed me more was that Robson, Souness, Roeder and whomever it was at Wigan when he signed, didn't wake up sooner to the fact he was actually just cubic zirconia that would cost you handfuls of points (at best) and vital games (at worse) over a season. He paid over the odds for Bramble mind. He was class the season Ipswich came up but he was poor the year after when they got relegated and even lost his starting place. A bit of a favour there to his old club a la Ambrose there. Either way, you're the manager so it's ultimately your responsibility if a signing doesn't work out. Howay 12496
The lad is an utter mong, this article proves it Brian Oliver ffs. I wish he had left "looking for first team football" elsewhere years ago, the Allardyce comment is a further example of his lack of intelligence. There must be a lack of windows to lick in Wigan for him to finally pipe up with his pathetic squeaky voice, or maybe he's just missing his idol Dyer. MONG!! The Fish 11080
p.s. I know I'm going to get shot to shit for this, but didn't Cort do ok, goals-to-games-wise for us?

But he hardly played anyway. He was unlucky with injuries etc. but he never looked out special even when he first arrived.

He was injured wasn't he (maybe not surprisingly ), but yeah in the end it's the managers responsibility, and maybe that was one of Robson's weaknesses in hanging on to players and thinking they could be made better, when maybe he should have just got shot (although in fairness Robson does have a pretty decent record with doing that over all). Although I'm not sure our development infrastructure side of things maybe helped with some others, Man U or Arsenal we certainly were not.
Guest alex
He was dropped iirc towards the end of the second season Ipswich were up. I may be wrong though. Either way it was a lot of lolly and I thought at the time we could have gotten Distin and Upson for what we payed for Bramble. I realise Distin went to City for more cash and Upson hasn't had a great time with injuries etc. but those two instead of Bramble would have been a better deal imo. bassplayerjj 0
to be fair to him, bar woodgate, who did he have to look up to and form a partnership with when he was still young himself (as a CB). If Roedent had brought Sol in when it was clear as fucking day to do so then he may have been able to save his career here. There were times when he was absolutely phenomenal, and other times when he played as if he were dumbo trying to dance on his hind legs. Never have any harsh feelings towards him as it must be awful to have been through some of the criticism thrown his way - fat, clumsy, oaf =/

Aye almost anyone would have been a better deal over all. He had a bad injury at some point though, but it could have been before all that. Guest alex
Not getting Distin was a major disappointment like. I thought he looked good here and I think that him going to Man City was as much about us 'humming and harring' about signing him from PSG (iirc), i.e. it could have been sorted out sooner and playing him at left-back instead of in the middle. luckyluke 2
I still have trouble deciding which name I prefer, Tortoise Shambles or Titfuck Bumble. The former just shades it I reckon.

peasepud 59
Peasepud, if you're reading this, didn't you and I have a wager going whereby you tipped Titus for an England spot within 12 months? And wasn't it double or quits on him being MOTM up here when we next played against Wigan at SJP? It was something like that anyway. Dig up the old posts by all means Im not sure about the England bit but I did clearly say he'd be MOTM at their place, either way I am lose

Holden McGroin 6937
I'm thick as mince tbh I bet my Dad Robbie Elliott would play for England in the mid 90's. Also said that about Steve Howey after he started playing centre half as well !
