Entering the USA

Basically I'm due to fly to America on Friday, the problem is that I've just got a phone call from the police about an absolutely baseless accusation and they've arranged for me to go down to the station and talk to them tomorrow, however, in order to interview me I will have to be arrested and then bailed. I know the Yanks can be strict on letting people in with a criminal record but will I have any problems if I am currently on bail?

Yes don't go to the cops before you fly if you can help it. If they enter your data in a da machine then god knows how much access the U.S. now have.

I've been told that I'll be finger printed, do they take DNA automatically now or is it only if you're charged with something?

YOu can still refuse dna unless they charge you with something. Don't under any circumstances give dna.

So they can't take it without my consent?

No.

Take a lawyer if you can.

Don't think I'll need a lawyer, as I say, the accusation is completely false and I should be able to get the evidence to prove that, more of a fucking inconvenience than anything.

Good clear you're name but resist giving personal data unless charged. They will try and coerce you as there is a massive drive to collect dna in the UK atm. They will pretend they destroy it and other such cobblers or say it is just to clear your name etc...Resist all this cobblers.

ewerk, when you get into the US they'll swipe your passport and some info comes up on the screen for the officious cockhead at immigration to stare at. I've no idea what it is, but I imagine that for you on this visit, that moment that he stares at the screen will seem like an eternity. ;)

Good luck with it though, hopefully you get everything sorted before you head out on there. Can you even leave this (your) country on bail, never mind get into the US?

Also, you have to fill in a travel visa. I can't remember if one of the questions pertains to whether you are currently on bail in your home country though. :icon_lol:

Well the policeman I was talking to made it sound like a formality, I don't even have to pay any money as far as I know, and iirc it's only certain cases where they put travel restrictions on your bail and seeing as they don't know about my holiday home in Brazil they're unlikely to see me as much of a flight risk. ;) I'm flying from Dublin and immigration is done there so at least it won't mean me flying 7 hours only to be turned away.

The worst thing about it is that it's happened in Manchester so it means I'm going to have to keep coming over to sort it out though hopefully I'll just have a chat with them tomorrow and tell them what evidence there is in my favour and I'll be fine.

Oh and Paddy, mind your own fucking business. :icon_lol:

As I said it's in Manchester so don't know any solicitors and don't have time to fuck around with one they've appointed.

Though if Mancy is at a loose end in the morning he can feel free to come down and go Shatner on their asses.

I would take a solicitor. I was once questioned for something I hadn't done so chose not to have one and they absolutely ripped me to shreds!
