Jimbo 175
Can't wait for this one, this Saturday night live on Setanta from Las Vegas, Calzaghe going up to Light-Heavyweight to fight a modern legend, this could really put Calzaghe on the boxing map in terms of an all-time great but I expect it to be very close, I think Calzaghe can win on points but its always a risk to expect Las Vegas judges to do a visiting fighter any favours. Guest alex
Bad timing like. At a wedding on the Saturday then it's quite an early start for the derby on the Sunday. Will probably catch a re-run on Sunday at some point.
ewerk 31641
And I'm going to be there! Well, when I say 'there' I mean Vegas rather than at the fight itself, they were looking silly money for tickets.

I was thinking of a pub but a casino would make sense, I'll have to check that out. Good thinking.

Jimbo 175
Joe Calzaghe puts his record of 44 fights without defeat on the line against Bernard Hopkins in Las Vegas. Welshman Calzaghe, 36, has successfully defended his world super-middleweight title 21 times over the last decade. But he makes the step up to light-heavyweight to take on American Hopkins, 43, who has amassed a record of 48 wins from 53 fights. Both weighed in at 12 stones 5lbs (173lbs) - two pounds under the light-heavyweight limit - on Friday. After the weigh-in, they clashed in the traditional pre-match photo-call. Hopkins, nicknamed "The Executioner", told Calzaghe: "I'm going to bust your heart." But for the first time in a week dotted with media appearances, Calzaghe hit back with some insults of his own and promoter Frank Warren said: "That's exactly what I wanted. "Joe has never been better prepared and I'm confident he will do the job in style." Calzaghe has never fought in Las Vegas before, leading to some Americans dubbing him "Stay-at-home Joe". But he said: "Fighting out here has always been my destiny, and now is the perfect time to do it. "I could have come over here five years ago but I might not have handled it as well as I am now. "I might be a home boy at heart but I can handle it all. Nothing bothers me about coming here. "I came here because of the challenge presented by beating Hopkins on his home ground. Lesser challenges do not interest me any more." Calzaghe, who took to the stage on Friday wearing a Cardiff City football shirt, was backed by 4,000 fans - far outnumbering those supporting his American opponent at the Planet Hollywood casino. They will hope the man from Newbridge can make the most of his impressive work-rate against the canny American. Hopkins said: "He might throw thousands of punches but I'm a sniper. "If he throws a thousand punches that leaves him open a thousand times. I'm the most accurate and pinpoint fighter there is."

Jimbo 175
Hhmmm not convinced at all, I'm glad to see a foreign fighter get the nod in Las Vegas but I thought Hopkins was bloody unlucky not to have got the decision, I didn't think Calzaghe won a round until the 4th this is after a first round knockdown that gave Hopkins a two point advantage, Hopkins fought a clever spoiling fight that stopped Calzaghe's game, I thought Calzaghe barely landed a significant punch all night but was the busier and was the aggressor which undoubtedly won the eye of the judges. But who cares, he won !!!

Jusoda Kid 1
Calzaghe was as lucky as fuck. There was no way on this earth he was going to KO Hopkins with his speed slapping technique. I would call it a day now if i was him.

RlCO 0
Deserved to win, the kid couldn't back away fast enough, just like Bawan on the forum. He also sneaked a few below the belt punches as well. Not a performance you would expect from a supposed heavyweight.

Howay 12496
I'm just glad Calzaghe won B-hop's a racist dickhead who still thinks he's in touch with the ghetto despite being a millionaire. I agree about the retirement thing I don't think Calzaghe would fair too well against Jones Jr. Edited April 20, 2008 by Barton7

Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7357097.stm Hopkins used all his experience in round 10 after being caught with a low blow but defended his actions which lead to a two-minute interruption to the fight. "That's my crotch - that's where he hit me and knocked my pirate outside of its cup," he said. "I told (referee Joe) Cortez that and he gave me five minutes." I expect its a mis-print and should say 'privates', but if Hopkins refers to his penis as "his pirate" that's class
Guest alex
I think Calzaghe might have won imo, just though. I don't know how one judge gave it by 5 rounds to him. Well pleased for him though and it's shit when a fighter just tries to spoil for most of the fight, which is all Hopkins did after about the 3rd round. My thoughts too, it was a shit fight all in all, Hopkins got his tactics from Sam Allardyce, instead of boxing to his strengths he simply tried to stop Calzaghe doing what he did best, I thought it was very very close fight and in some respects a draw might have been the best result.
