Good news btw Craig mate, also glad to see you're now a real man having your shit pushed in. Unless it wasn't for the first time?

Slightly off topic but when we send the sex offenders from Peterhead for this type of thing I always want to ring the hospital and ask if they can do it as roughly as fuck.

Whatever turns you on I suppose.

Funny how things come back to haunt you...

Was at my brothers a couple of weeks back and overheard him talking to my other brother about a colonoscopy. When I quizzed him, he said my old man was having to go in for one as they'd found 'abnormal' cells. Wondering why I'd not been told, I simply got told "he thinks you've got enough on your plate..."

Anyway, colonoscopy has happened followed by biopsy of a growth they've found and a scan. Today he got the results and he's got bowel cancer.

For those of you who know me, you'll know I've already been through the hell of a parent having cancer and lost my Mam nearly 12 years ago.

Don't know a great deal but know he's going in for surgery on 29th December which, from what I can gather, is to cut out whatever is infected. The optimist in me thinks that if it was terribly serious then they'd have him in now but bowel cancer is of course a killer and the best treatment of cancer is to deal with it ASAP.

Ah well, always look on the bright side of life and all that

Aye that's horrible ;) Been there far too often myself recently.

All you can ever do with it is try to keep positive.

Aye, chin up Craig.

Mick 7 (my dad) is on his third cycle of chemo this week and suffering terrible pins and needles in the cold from it. It follows his second time under the knive for colon cancer, spanning 20 years, and it's all going well (fingers crossed).

He's still working and laughing his way through it all though. Made me and my brother a chinese yesterday before a night on the drink. He can't be more than 10 minutes from a bog like because they've cut so much away that everything goes straight through him.

So don't fret that "bowel cancer is of course a killer" too much, he'll just need you to change his nappies

Depending on how aggressive the cancer is (which can be estimated by looking at the biopsy sample under the microscope) of the operation need not always be immediately.

At least it means he gets to spend Christmas at home rather than in hospital. Hope all goes well.

Bowel cancer is hugely treatable these days when caught early. It's still a horrible thing to be diagnosed, but stay positive, support each other and take it a day at a time. Sending much love and hugs

Cheers peeps.. we're all in good spirits at the moment and he has no discomfort from it (was picked up on a routine bowel cancer check that they're handing out to people in their 60s apparently).

My Grandad (on my Mam's side) had bowel cancer and had to have a colostomy. Although he recovered from the cancer, his general health deteriorated and he died 12 months later.

Making the best of this weekend (when I'm seeing him) and I'll be in the area when his operation is happening - should be coming back from the Liverpool match.

Just wait and see for the op I guess - he's on a cancellation list so if he gets the nod, he'll go in early
