zico martin 90
Just brought an excel 97 file home to do some work on and Ive found that I cant open it and edit with the office 2007 I have on my machine here! Its not much of a spreadsheet but can anyone suggest how I can work on it other than getting a version of office 97 from somewhere?

Rob W 0
the latest vile version of Excel will open older versions It will NOT now open any Lotus worksheets You have to be careful to saveas Excel 97-2000 version as an xls - otherwise you get the new xlsx format Why the hell did they do this? Same reason MS do pretty much everything. Specifically in this case, control the proprietary file type and you control the user.

All to do with XML which they started to introduce into Office products with InfoPath 2003. It's called evolution Rob I mean why did they ever move away from DOS-based office?
