When they change this way it's usually worse for some reason. I really don't understand why they even do it these days, no real benefit other than killing obese kids not quick enough to dodge cars on dark winter nights. Rob W 0 Posted April 2, 2008 Share Posted April 2, 2008 Tis true that in mid summer we have long evenings - I shall check my astro package tonight and give you the exact numbers Spain is WEST of the UK and therefore should be on GMT -1; in fact they stick to W Yurop and are GMT+1 - a 2 hour shift over their "correct" timings so it's always darker in the mornings than you'd expect If we shifted to double summer time we'd be on GMT+2 in the summer - which would give us light well towards midnight - not exactly the same as Spain but in a similar direction Daylight is exactly the same length (12 hours) all over the world on the 21st March and 21st September and the variation is greater the closer you go towards the Poles The real point is when do you want the daylight - in the early morning or in the evening? They did double summer time during WW2 and for a while in the late 60's just had summer time all year around (not literally ), wasn't very popular in Scotland though. O degrees runs west of Barcelona and east of Zaragoza - Valencia is almost bang on the Greenwich Meridian - La Corunna is about as far west as Cork - so most of Spain is West of the meridian on a similar note Kirkeness in N Norway is as far east as Alexandria and is east of Istanbul Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
