'Whatever happened to the heroes?' asked the Stranglers some years ago.

 

Well, we can tell you where one of them is - he's working for RTE.

 

For Mediawatch's current idol is veteran anchorman Bill O'Herlihy, whose eyes lit up when perrenial managerial 'contender' Graeme Souness sulked his way into the RTE studio for the Liverpool game.

 

As we all know Souness has been 'linked' with every vacancy going in the past couple of years. And by 'linked' we of course mean 'let everyone know he is still available'.

 

O'Herlihy began the interrogation with, "So Graeme, how does it feel knowing you weren't quite up to the cut for the Ireland job?" to which Souness replied sheepishly, "Yeah, I declared my interest early on, but, well I think I knew deep down I wasn't going to get the job."

 

Not content with this, Herlihy hammered home, "And the Scotland job - disappointed not to get that too?". Souness was briefly taken aback before mumbling into his tie, "Well, yeah disappointed. I had an interview there but erm, well, they gave it to George Burley."

 

So many congratulations to Mr O'Herlihy. If you ever find yourself in the vicinity of F365 Towers, we will buy you a cake.
