VHS thrived over Betamax because it was the format that porn came out on. From what I heard Betamax gave better picture and sound quality.

What's the sound quality like on iPods?

I've only ever had Creative's, first one was a 40gb Creative Zen Xtra, that broke so I got a Zen touch as a replacement, after a while the buttons became unusable due to the debris underneath them.

So i had the choice of a getting a replacement Zen Touch, an iPod or an iRiver, I actually wanted to try the iPod, but they were out of stock, so I decided to go for the iRiver, but I soon found out it wasn't an ideal MP3 player for me, I was just going to use it to play music, but the iRiver also has photo an text capablities, i also thought the signal-to-noise ratio wasn't great compared to the Zen Touch, quite a lot of static in the background.

So I've ended up with the Zen Touch again, which I have no cplaints about, as the sound quality is excellent. I think in maybe a year or two I'll probably change it like.

All depends on the headphones you use. With the iPod standard jobbies, it's pretty mediocre. Connect it up to the Bose Sounddock or Alpine in-car head unit and it's pretty darn impressive!

Agreed, I invested in a set of Sony in the ear type, and it kicks arse compared to the standard ones.

IPODs = Overpriced fashion accessory. I'd rather get a decent MP3 player.

Funny you should use the word accessory, as this is one of the better reasons for buying an iPod, the amount of accessories you can buy for an iPod is incredable, where as when you compare the amount of accessories and add ons you can get for the other high end mp3 players is very disapointing in comparison.

some people are lazy and would rather just post on a forum rather than taking time to look up the info themselves

Got a Zen Touch. Well yeah but the screen broke. I can listen to it, but the fact I can't use the screen means my best bet is to only play it on random, using the random button. Which I sometimes like to do, but it kind of sucks. I rarely use it now, and seeing as it was an accident that let it break, I can't get it repaired. Been thinking of a replacment, but haven't made any decisions - doubt I'll be getting a 20gig one anyway.

Annoying thing isn't it. I was foolish enough to be running when it flew out of my pocket. So my fault to be honest.

i=pod looks better and has more accessories,i-river supports wma,mp3 ogg and 2 others i have no idea what they are, voice recorder, built in radio and its own encoder so if you have any vinyl or tapes you can easy mp3 them, very fiddly navigation till you get used to it though.

Do they have to type on really small keyboards?

EDIT: Just read that, more of the same from Apple. I don't understand how they get away with it. Can anyone who knows the problems with various incarnations of the iPods and still wants one or has got one explain it to me please?
