I suppose I'll be supporting Sweden this summer, if only through an accident of genetics 4. Listening to music 5. Off out to the pub later

snakehips 0
A true 'Philipism'. Prince Philip was visiting a deaf school. There was a brass band playing at the time. Phil bends down to one deaf girl and says, 'No wonder you're deaf, with that racket going on!' :D

The gaff he made on a visit to Australia always makes me chuckle, on greeting a group of Aboriginies he said: "Do you still chuck spears at eachother "? snakehips 0
Another Philipism. Visiting China, he speaks to a Brit who was doing some sort of studying there. Phil says, 'Don't stay here too long, or you'll end up with slitty eyes'.
luckyluke 2
I'll be rooting for France probably. Jeez, you must be at a low ebb. I quite like the French. Obviously doing a bit of a Stevie here, but I think that they're quite similar to ourselves as a nation, which is probably why most British people hate them. Thinking about living there at some point. I'd happily support them over the monkey chanting Spanish fans anyway.
Isegrim 9937
Those Battenburgs make exceedingly good cakes apparently. Battenberg is close to where I come from, never knew about the cake stuff. Originally the Battenbergs died out in the 14th century, the name was only reused early in the 19th century. Anyway, I support Poland... ... just in their group game against Austria. Battenburg is a type of cake you get over here. The 'exceedingly good' bit is pinched from a Mr. Kipling advert (cake manufacturer). It's even more hilarious now I've explained it, don't you think? MattM4 0
I guess Poland for me too (as I have some Polski blood). Will also be supporting every team that plays France. Otherwise I usually just end up hating most nations capable of doing resonably well. Italy, Holland, France, Spain, Portugal, Gers etc...

TheMoog 0
The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (born Prince Philippos of Greece) "Even more irksome was the wariness with which the British regarded Philip when he first came on the royal scene. A poll taken in 1947 revealed widespread dismay at Philip's alien origins. Never mind that he was, like Elizabeth, a great-great-grandchild of Queen Victoria. To the public he became 'Phil the Greek', an opprobrious nickname which still surfaces from time to time today. It was inaccurate. Philip was born a Prince of Greece, but his ancestry was actually Danish and German. The nickname was none the less wounding for that, though." He line is oringinally from the House of Hannover crossed with the Danes. The Danes had the practice of exporting Royalty and Royal lines to countries where the natives didn't really trust each other to run things. Our Royals are mostly Krauts as well Stevie if you were wondering. Saxe Coburg Goethe till the name changes. Aye but if a Paki is born in England, are they Pakistani or English? They're English of course they are, so Phil remains Greek till the day he dies. Hang on, my brother was born in Singapore but he's English If a dog's born in a stable it doesn't make them a horse. Still, I must admit I've always thought Phil was Greek. Getting back to the main topic, I'm not supporting anyone in particular, I lose interest when my team's not playing.
