I think the term "Asian" is more racist than "paki", I really do. At least if you say Paki, you're referring to someone from Pakistan. Asian is just putting everyone in the same basket, when there are so many diversities in that part of the world. Like Kurdish people look more like Turks than Indians, would we call Turks "Asian"? I used to get in fights all the time at school until year 9, people calling me paki etc etc, now personally I don't find it offensive at all because the people that say it obviously haven't got a clue what they are talking about because I am not from Pakistan. People do say that word in a racist way and to hurt others feeling, doesn't bother me though. For the Turkey bit, it just depends what part of it your talking about, the Kurdish part is in Asia but apart from that in my opinion the rest is in Europe. I hate Turks btw Edited February 6, 2008 by bawan

The Fish 11009
Heard somewhere, (probably some sandalista newspaper) that the politically correct terminology for peoples from the indian sub-continent is to say "Desi [sp?] Culture" or simply "Desi" Does anyone here get offended if they're called roast beef by the french? Limey's by the Americans or Poms by the Australians? I don't understand the need for walking on eggshells awith regards to calling someone (who is from Pakistan) a "paki" but I'm aware that people find it offensive so I don't use the term. It's not the same in my eyes as the N word, simply because that has more palpably offensive connotations.

With U.S. bases in Turkey as well as Eeyerak it would be a tricky one. The Kurds iirc fought Saddams lot for many a year. Good fighting and proud people like the Afghans.
