curry stained pilchard 0
Christ almighty, people need to be patient, when he was appointed most agreed that it would be hard for him to get any players of significant note in the January transfer window, now all of a sudden we're a joke again for not buying for the sake of buying. Would you rather buy players now who we don't really want? Or wait until the summer and get the players we are really after to push us on? I tell you what I hate the modern day football fan, tell you what go fuck off and support someone else if you're not happy, then that way at least we don't have to put up with your constant moaning all of the time. Stop moaning...
JawD 99
Would have been nice to get someone in but does it really matter? We wont go down (I believe if I say that enough it will come true), and we wont get into Europe. So, there is no need to panic buy or take needless risks for the sake of it. This way, KK gets to know his squad (shouldnt take that long the size of it), the people around him have more time to identify targets and we can go about it rationally in the summer. I just dont think signing anyone now would make a whole difference to our season.
Ken 119
I rather have nobody come to the club than quick fixes like that Brazilian bloke from Levante. I wouldn't have been elated had that turned out. This season is a write-off. So long as we don't get relegated I'm quite happy that we didn't get any mercenaries or pretenders to the club. Come the summer, and I think we'll be one of the most active clubs in the transfer market. Both in terms of acquiring new talent and pushing out the rubbish. To be honest I think it would have be daft for Kev to have brought any more players before he has even met 4 of the first team regulars (and arguably some of our best players!) I mean dont get me wrong I think our side does need 'strengthening' big time, but give Kev a bit of time to get his feet under the table and see what he can do with the existing squad before we start moaning eh? The bit in bold confuses me a little. He also said he wouldn't let anyone go out, as our squad is so small. So why did he let Roshenal go, then ???? Unless the prospect of Beye and Faye coming back shortly encouraged him.

What did you make of the Giles Barnes offer? The thing I would like to know is why other clubs weren't prepared to pay what Derby wanted for him? Especially Sunlun who don't seem to mind paying over the odds for lesser players (that's assuming Barnes is as good as some are leading us to believe). What did you make of the Giles Barnes offer? Are you saying he'll be worth more when Derby go down and he wants to leave like? He's totally unproven. Managers (as Jewell did in this case) always try and suggest their players are worth more anyway. Souness reckoned he wouldn't sell Jenas for less than £15m. Especially Sunlun who don't seem to mind paying over the odds for lesser players (that's assuming Barnes is as good as some are leading us to believe). Who can tell. But for me it was a strange one, ie. Did KK really want him? Or was he already on some kind of shortlist because if KK really wanted him I find it strange the club wouldn't add another million to test Derby, which leads me to believe he was already on a shortlist or someone else's idea hence the bargain basement bid (£1.5m). I like many accept the idea that Jan (reportedly) is a difficult time to re-build a side, yet I find it a total mystery why even one player couldn't be found to give the side a lift, struggling as it is to perform. I'm not saying we are going to get relegated but it might be closer than many think.
Guest alex
We tried to sign Woodgate and there were other targets mentioned without being named. They obviously didn't work out. I'm glad we just didn't sign some other player(s) just for the sake of it though. For some reason though the doom-mongerers seem to be suggesting we weren't even trying for players. Suppose it fits in with their whingeing agenda. Edited February 1, 2008 by alex

Putting aside his attributes, we must fancy him to some degree and he widely considered to show promise...But £1.5m? Don't buy the right leg of a decent footballer never mind a whole one. Guest alex
Well, I think it fits in with how I see us doing business from now on. Trying to get lots of players for the future, i.e. buying 'potential' but not paying too much for it (already seen evidence of this) and paying the mega-bucks for the proven 'stars'. Barnes is just some 19 year old kid who's looked canny in a few games in a shit side this season. Edit: And the Barnes offer is only considered 'low' because he's English imo.
