Without being nasty I think the idea of winning the lottery and still working displays a profound lack of imagination - I wouldn't be sitting around all day - I'd be off discovering the world as a first thought with a "9-5 routine" being the last thing I'd be think of. I can understand the psychological need for this in the normal course of things but to not want out of if given the chance is sad imo. Don't get me wrong, I'd go travelling and stuff. I'm lucky enough that the job I do is somethng I really enjoy problem is a lot of the work is boring and mundane and creatively isn't work I would chase if I was working for myself. But it gives me access to equipment I currently couldn't afford to own, giving me opportunity to produce things for myself after hours. I might have a day at Alton Towers. Nah, I mean short term I guess. I get the impression a lot of people would jack it in immediately and to hell with anyone who has to pick up their work. It would take me a good month to finish off anything I was currently working on and do a handover that didn't drop some people in the shit. I like to think I'd do that Then I'd apply for a year of unpaid leave, use that to travel, spend, treat the family, move house etc. Then I'd take a look at what I did and if I still want to, because I reckon that year could change me quite a bit. I get what you're saying (especially about dropping people in the shit) but at the same time I don't think I could last if I came back to work knowing I had £xm in the bank - I think the slightest problem would be met with "fuck it". I also think it would cause problems from other people if they knew about it - thats why a clean break sounds better. Of course as you say theres nothing to stop you working for yourself if you felt your brain was dying. I honestly think I could fill 20 years with activities before even thinking of work. After that its to relieve boredom and that generally goes hand in hand with job satisfaction. Everyone's different but there's no way I could be in a job where i'm earning a mint yet i absolutely fucking hate it. If I won several million pounds, I'd like to think I'd still keep a part time job or something just to get to meet people and have something to do...
