Kid Dynamite 7027
WTF Indeed! I can only think Keegan has become mates with him over the years and there is a bit of nepotism at play. I've never known one knowledgable football fan with a mackem accent. Wise loves Keegan because he took him to Euro 2000 aged 34. Wise isnt signing Keegan though is he? Hew man yee kna lyke. Does that make me a better fan now?

Scottish Mag 3
JEFF Vetere's career in football has taken him from the cut-and-thrust of the local Kent League to the splendour and glory of the Nou Camp stadium. He has an unquestionable ability to judge a footballer, but Charlton's new overseas scouting co-ordinator admits he has a much simpler secret to his success. "I think people underestimate the value of talking to fans and locals," he revealed. "If I'm watching an obscure game in Norway where all the players are low profile, people like taxi-drivers and waiters are good for getting the low-down on a player and often the general consensus about a player can be an accurate guideline." Vetere, a former Luton Town apprentice, is of Italian parentage and is fluent in both Italian and Spanish. He left a coaching/scouting post at Vauxhall Conference side Rushden and Diamonds to join Charlton three months ago. "I was part of the meeting which arranged Charlton's pioneering link with Internazionale and I found out they have nine full-time international scouts constantly flying all over the world." The 33-year-old scout recently organised a highly publicised trial for Nigerian international Tijani Babangida at Charlton's Sparrows Lane training ground. But, as he explained, the selection process is not without direction from the management team: "If I like a player, I will write my report and submit it to Keith Peacock, but I have to work to guidelines. "Alan Curbishley and Keith will then decide whether the squad needs strengthening in that position, get a second opinion, and ask me to organise a trial. "But there are a lot of hurdles to overcome. If the player is one of the strongest in his team, it means he is a difficult player to get a trial for. It's like another club trying to get our Scott Parker on trial - you have to be careful." Vetere, who was a youth coach at Charlton four years ago, is aware he could be accused of bringing in "foreign merce-naries" ahead of home-grown youngsters. He said: "I understand the club's English identity is very important, but if you want to keep on developing you have to give yourself as much scope to improve as you can. "Charlton's hard-working academy department is as good as I've ever seen as, like everyone else, its strives to produce players. I also think it is important for youngsters to look up to the highly technical foreign players playing in the Premiership." acrossthepond 877
Jesus, how many of you were born with silver spoons in your gobs? Isn't this what we've been dying for since Shepherd took over? Real structure, a proper management setup, backroom staff, competent owners, etc? I'm all for this move forward, I think a Madrid scout taking over as technical director can be nothing but good, he's highly-rated and as you can read in the article we appear to be looking toward a proper academy. I really don't care how short Wise is, or what he did as a player, unlike Barton who he is being compared to he's actually proven himself in his field and his work at Leeds has held them together. Isn't this what Leazes calls "planning?" We researched a candidate for a management position weeks before appointing him. We are building a dynasty here and if KK is to be the figurehead I think we could have worse figureheads.
Scottish Mag 3
Newcastle United’s attempt to restructure the club means that a new team will be in place behind the scenes at St James’ Park. One is a familiar face, but the other two newcomers are less well known. Dennis Wise St James’ Park, it seems, has an eternal fascination for football’s bad boys. Wise would point out that he is a different person from the snarling character who was adored by Chelsea fans and loathed by just about everyone else. He has overcome scepticism from Leeds United fans, as well as a 15-point deduction, to hoist the club into a strong position in Coca-Cola League One. Yet the 41-year-old is understood to be pining for a break from management - he has also had spells at Millwall, Southampton (as caretaker) and Swindon Town. His family have not settled in Yorkshire and his new role – which can be filed under the bracket of general manager – should allow him to spend two or three days a week at his Buckinghamshire home. Duties beckoning for Wise will include scouting, but Kevin Keegan, the manager, will have the final say on acquisitions. Chris Mort, the chairman, has also placed great emphasis on developing the club’s academy. Tony Jimenez Set to be named Newcastle’s new vice-president today, he is a friend of Paul Kemsley, the former Tottenham Hotspur vice-chairman. In turn, Kemsley is tight with Mike Ashley, the Newcastle owner, while Jimenez has a long association with Wise, having established a wide network of contacts in football through his background in property development. So the circle is squared. Jimenez has a reputation as a Mr Fixit, having played a significant role in Tottenham’s capture of Juande Ramos. He was also instrumental in Keegan’s return to Tyneside. He will grease the wheels for transfer deals to be finalised. The model being established is a continental one, where young, talented players are targeted and either integrated into the first team or sold at a profit. Keegan, who knew about the plans before returning to Newcastle, is said to be satisfied that there will be no interference in his domain. A former director of Casa Sports Holdings Ltd, an agency whose clients included Celestine Babayaro, who had an ill-fated period at Newcastle, Jiminez was in Spain last night, scouting for youth-team players. Jeff Vetere A former apprentice at Luton Town, he rose from a youth coaching role at Rushden & Diamonds to become Charlton Athletic’s overseas scouting co-ordinator. Fluent in Italian and Spanish, he has since worked for Real Madrid but will take the title of technical director, which will mean an international scouting role. Credited with an encyclopaedic knowledge of footballers, Vetere will be expected to use his broad range of skills to help Newcastle to restock their youth and reserve ranks with exciting prospects. LeazesMag 0
nothing other than a number 2 to Keegan like Terry McDermott was last time, but tossers like Baggy will be harping on about this DOF stuff now. Which is a guaranteed success of course ie everybody who has a DOF will be successful, although there are only 2 major trophies. If we are successful, its still down to the number 1, Keegan. As always.
