At the end of the day it's making a mockery of A-Levels

;)

Kids will be throwing away their bunsen burners and rushing to McDonalds to get these new exclusive qualifications.

Won't somebody think of the children!

Well as has been said it isn't actually an A-Level but the point still stands.

It doesn't like :D

If you didn't believe it before, this is exactly why they have been dumbing down A-levels, and bigging up training NVQs, because miraculously, now we have a new 'equivalency level' system (another cushy Quango job for someone) which allows this ridiculous qualification to exist alongside real qualifications, such as A levels and Apprenticeships. It's a crock of shit, already the CBI have been on basically saying other companies probably won't accept other companies definition of an appropriate management syllabus, leading to a legal problem because of this equivalency rating, which will mean companies rejecting the McDiploma will be discriminating against applicants, so now we basically have privatised education by the back door, but for Old Labour reasons. The whole country is going to shit, and Gordon Brown is chief shoveller, he brings the worst of Labour and the Tories at the same time. Stupid scottish cunt that he is.

I would also be concerned about how other organisations rate these qualifications though, i.e. can't see a management diploma from McDonald's being worth a lot. Your (over)reaction is of Daily Mail-esque proportions imo however.

I don't know what business you're in, but if it was Burker King franchising that would be a strange way to react to someone having all the right qualifications.

Of course, 5 stars on their name tag would do the job as well as any diploma.

Still think it's daft that vocational institutions - polytechnics etc. have been done away with while the government is trying to get even more numbers through university. Meanwhile people with 'trades' in the UK are in short supply and has been part of the reason so many Poles have came here. Something's wrong somewhere.

Totally agree.

I've long given up on the notion that the Govt are even vaguely intersted in the people any longer.

Wind power anyone?

Go back to Berlin, you big fat Deutschlander.

two things that grabbed me about this.

Who will teach these subjects? the managers and supervisors would (I assume) normally take on the role of teacher with regards to shift management, health and safety etc. These people are not qualified to teach, so McDonalds et al will need to bring teachers in, who'll surely need to go through the whole rigamarole of background checks and what-nopt. Leading me to ask, why McDonalds don't just subsidise the attendance of the employees at a night-school? It would be cheaper, it would give the kids a better, more wide reaching qualification and it would keep the little bastards off the streets for even longer.

Also, how fucking depressing is it going to be for the kid who doesn't pass the FlyB-tech? If they can't even get a McDegree how shit are they?

I understand Sammy's point, there is an elitism. I for one don't think that some degree of snobbery is such a bad thing, but I know it's neither a popular nor socially constructive opinion ;)

The crux of the issue for me is not who is giving the qualifications, but it's that these qualifications are utterly value-less outside of that organisation. They are just a five-starred name-badge in a nice dress. Who could give a shite if the person telling the person who's serving you has a McDegree? as long as there are people behind the counter, "food" being cooked and areas kept clean I really don't think the education of these people matters a jot to the general public and if it matters to these employees, why don't they enroll in a night school?

don't be daft sammy, the fella serving you will be too busy revising to actually give you the food!

we all know how studious you'd need to be to get a job at McDonalds...

oh... no... wait... it's not studious it's ... what's the word? useless! there ya go, you have to be useless to work in McDonalds.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of the McDonald's kids work just as hard if not harder as people wearing business suits in offices, in far less pleasant conditions.

The snobbery on here doesn't suprise me in the least.

I get classroom based training where I work, I get certificates and accreditations that are of no use whatsoever outside of the industry I work in (I.T.). I'm sure accountants, plumbers, actuaries, joiners, make-up artists, chefs, farmers and most other trades have similar.

WHAT THE FUCK gives anyone the right to say that working your way up the fast food ladder (which I'd imagine to be a pretty sizeable industry) should have any less of a structure than any other job in the country?

Christ all Blighty!
