For not crashing on to the houses he cleared by a few feet. By not getting his 200 passeners barbecued. Regular run of the mill shit like that.

Not forgetting "for the co-pilot actually flying the thing".

Have we found out why the pilot actually delegated not crashing the plane? Was he shaking in the corner at the time it landed?

 

Standard procedure, pilot takes off, co-pilot lands. There isn't any skill difference between the two positions, and in this case when they only had 40 seconds, the man in current control takes the lead in a crisis I would have thought.

not so - taking off is MUCH easier than landing

 

it's the difference between starting from a traffic light (rev up and Warp Factor 9) - and stopping at a precise line at a red light

 

they swop so that the #2 pilot gets experience - and they have to do so many takoffs and landings in a month to keep their licence current

 

Looking at the published details it looks as if they decided to accept they were going to land short - which was a lot better than trying to stretch the glide and stalling in
