NUFC vs Bolton Wanderers

Reading Noelie's post I think he's made some good points.

However, I thought Duff showed some good stuff tonight and wasn't as bad as some have made out. Although on the whole I completely agree he's not yet good enough.

We were missing 7 first team players tonight. I'd have had Beye on for Carr, Faye on for either Roz or Taylor (neither Roz or Carr can hit a shot), Smith on for the Ameoba, Butt in CM where we were losing it and Martins would have been a useful sub.

Based on that I'm not horrifically disappointed with the draw. Before someone leaps down my throat, I know we should be winning our home games (especially against Bolton). But given the team we were able to put out and the recent shenanigans at the club, coupled with the fact the Bolton came here to defend - a draw was not disastrous. I agree with the posts about showing Keegan what we are. I would add to that though, this is what these players are currently like. I expect to see an improvement in several of them as a result of Keegan's influence.

Naturally I would have preferred 3 points tonight, but I thought Bolton defended well and we wasted the chances we had. Carr spooned two, at one point Roz had had more chances than Owen and screwed them all. Our final ball wasn't good enough and we lost it too many times - particularly in midfield; but in the 2nd half we showed genuine improvement and actually attacked the game.

Still, we looked more like a team wanting to play football, so there is hope for us yet.

Bring it on

This is the crux of it and especially in the 2nd half where we made two increases of tempo something we rarely managed under SA.

Keegan looked unhappy which is good news.

The ref was shocking.

Agreed, he had a shitter.

What I hate seeing is a ref giving a yellow carded player a "final warning" (ie a bottle out chat) and then seeing the same player back chatting as he runs away. Letting him get away with that shows a depth of cowardice that I have nothing but utter contempt for.

As much as the football was poor i thought the atmosphere was great and i was in L7 so i was singing my fucking head off right next to the bolton fans (who were up for it).

There wasn;t that much going on down on the picth like:lol:

Rozenhal is strictly a defender i reckon , his poor midfield player in general proved this - never mind his shot & header.

I liked the Zog and young Lua Lua yesterday like - good to watch in a bad match

Bolton cleary came for the draw and very nearly stole it - but i had a good time and thought we a had a good second half and didn't look bad in the 1st.

Welcome Home Keegan

Just watched the Keegan interivew on .cock, he's bigging up Shola after yesterday's effort saying if we can get him playing to his best then we won't need to spend millions on a new striker. ffs

I know the party line on Ameobi, and he deserves his criticism.

But you have to agree that a manager coming in should give ALL his players every encouragement. Give them some hope of getting a regular place if their performances are up to standard.

To be angry or disbelieving that Keegan is doing that with Ameobi is a bit harsh. After all he's second only to Alan Shearer for European goals at the club. Bellamy couldn't score as many goals.

I don't expect him to say "fuck he's shite" in front of the camera's but if Keegan truely believes that money shouldn't be spent on a striker because we have Shola, then I'll start to worry.

Keegan probably hasn't realised yet that Ameobi flatters to deceive. Remember Souness remarking how he destroyed defenders in practice matches? No doubt reality will dawn on Keegan as well if Shola figures in too many more matches.

Just got home. Was gonna have a cheap, hardworking healthy weekend of revising, going to the gym and nowt else. One phone call later and that goes tits up. That's the last time I ring that cunt. Shit match n'all. ;)

If we ever win something...anything....you'll appreciate it all the more, marra.

Keegan always says all the right things, he'll probably keep bigging up Shola, get him playing alright (optimistic perhaps) then flog him. People forget how ruthless he can be - i.e. selling players like David Kelly once he felt we had better replacements.

Smiling assassin tbh. One minute you think you're well in and the next minute you're out on your arse if he thinks it right. [andrew cole]

Just got back in.

From the game a few things became very apparent.

Rozenhal is not a midfielder.

Shola despite this being his chance to prove, looked as lazy as ever.

Carr looked better and was pulling out wide stretching the game as we should to create more space.

Bolton came for a draw with 9 men behind the ball all of the time.

Some of our fans are fucking pathetic expecting change after one training session.

Some twats in the leazes today, someone threw a cup of tea/coffee/bovril in frustration and it sailed over head and hit someone down below behind the goal. Not the usuals who sit there (that threw it).

Ref was shite.

I was wondering what had happened as everyone around me was looking back and up at the stand as if something had been going on.

there was a scuffle near me, 2 lads trying to fight but not enough space and ended up grappling etc .... took the plod a few minutes to get there though

What sort of dick hoys their hot drink away in disgust? Is that supposed to prove he's more of a fan, because he cares that much? Wouldn't have been laughing if it had hit me like.

As dissapoiting as the result and performance was, I was cheered up on the way out. What cheered me up? Watching the Bolton lot celebrate their 0-0 like it was a victory, huging each other and punching fists towards their fans who also celebrated like it was a win. That's what we would have become if Big Sam had stayed, a wanky non descript mid-table bunch of cloggers, celebrating 0-0's against other wanky non decript shite in the league. In short, thank fuck we're not Bolton.

Excellent point.

I was fairly happy coming away because at least we tried to play some football. Under Allardyce the midfield was usually completely bypassed unless N'Zogbia managed to get the ball from Given, but now they were clearly under instruction to avoid the long ball as much as possible and build from the back.

The confidence is still low and with the amount of players out (not to mention Boltons ten men behind the ball at all times) it was always going to be difficult but at least we tried which was nice to see (although the tit end that sits behind me was complaining every time they got the ball from Given, I can't for the life of me undertand why someone would spend £600 on a season ticket and want to see out keeper hump the ball the length of the pitch at every oppertunity).

Shearers coments on motd were also very interesting. Not that he had spoken to Keegan but that he identified how badly we are missing a door opener in midfield. Hopefully this is something that was brought up in his discussions with KK. The media are always so keen to jump on our defence but never noticed our complete lack of ability in attack and it was good to see someone mention it.

Very good point, that reaction says everything. Also i'm not saying before Keegan returned that Bolton would have come here and been all out attack, but they would have had a bit of a go at us, like everyone else. Nobody coming up here was concerned with what we'd do anymore, back in the day nearly every team barring the likes of manu would come up here with a plan to spoil the game and stop us, that was their aim and if they got a draw they'd be happy.

I just appreciated a bit of noise and passion for once.

The game wasn't good but people who wouldn't normally sing were singing and people who do normally sing were going crazy

We had a few silent spells like
