Chaser 1199
What other club outside the big 4 would have SSN coming live from the ground and literally devoting the day to his press conference?
RlCO 0
It's funny how we're not a 'big club' like, isn't it? I mean, this whole thing has been massive news for days now. Nail on heed that marra. Said it before, in that sense we definitely are a big club and it's why we get a bad press a lot of the time from individual journos who are clearly just peddling their own resentful little agendas. Jealousy. There's a fine line between being a big draw and a freak show. Do you think the press are all over Amy Winehouse or Brtiney Spears every day because they're great singers? No, it's because they want to see them implode and top themselves. It's ghoulish fascinitation. Everton and the like are just not that interesting. Maestro7 0
I must say that was a refreshing throw back the KK i remember! He was humourous and witty and had enough about himself to put david craig in his place!! It was never in doubt he knew what we wanted and how this club operates, and going from what he just said he is definatly the most qualified man for the job! Good times! Bombadil 0
I thought he was limping as he came in the ground, so maybe he isnt quite that fit and needs to get back up to it. Liked his words and thought that he was saying all the right things. Still looks a bit drained though That sounds a bit worrying?

No, it's because (rightly or wrongly) people seem to care/have an opinion one way or another. And people seem to care a remarkable amount about Newcastle. Ok then I think we're notorious because we're so unsuccessful and yet inexplicably still remain popular (in terms of gates etc). It's such an anomoly that people can't ignore it (as a phenomenon) and some choose to snide us because it undermines/tarnishes their views of their own clubs. Happy Face 29
Was it Brock or J69 who started going on about his bird being better than everyone else's? The "Big club" debate is almost that embarrassing. Newcastle United are the biggest club to me. Whatever any other fucker says or does won't change it. I don't obsess about the big club thing by any means. I just happen to think it's a fact in the sense that we're so obviously a big draw.

My post was more of a dig at hacks who try to say we're not in a unpleasant, envious 'who do they think they are?' manner. I'm not one who subscribes to the 'big club' debate at all. It doesn't really matter, does it? I'd say we're above average sized though. Edited January 18, 2008 by alex

RlCO 0
In Keegan's own words we are as big as any outside the top 4. I'm saying that we get more press attention than say Everton on announcing a new manager etc because of recent notariety and gaffes, not because we are any more popular nationally i.e. outside of the local area, than Everton or the like are. Sure we were a draw to outsiders for good reasons in the old days, but in the last few years, from outsiders all I have had is ridicule and pisstaking. Sure Britney Spears was a popular singer. Don't kid yourself that is why she is a draw for the press nowadays for fucks sake.

Big TRon 0
I was slightly worried for Kev, and how he'd handle this, but he stood up well. Yes he's a bit older looking but there is still that old drive and ambition to mix it with the best. He is still the Messiah and he looks like he can't wait to prove it.
