Gareth Southgate's got more experience than Shearer. Would anyone fancy appointing him? Thought not.

A good part of management is motivation...Southgate would have a job getting anyone excited, let alone the "Geordie Nation" but Shearer wouldn't. Having the crowd behind the team at SJP would be a very good start for a manager.

There's no evidence that I've seen that Shearer is capable of anything like motivational speaking. He'd have the crowd onside, but would he know what to do with the team? I think he's an intelligent bloke and I'd like to think he'd be a success, but it's a big gamble.

Im with Mancy on this one, frankly the whole things bollocks. Shearer is an ambassador for this club he spends half his time there and is obviously close to Mort and Ashley so why all this undercover shite.

If they wanted him to take the job then he should have been asked and appointed before Allardyces arse was even out the door so its obvious that hes not first choice. He should already know that and should now be backing the club by issuing statements to that fact.

But hes the great Alan Shearer first choice for all things Geordie, son of a sheet metal worker, lives on Stottie n Pease Pudding, drinks Broon Ale for breakfast and is black n white through n through (apart from when it suits the Shearer media machine).

I'll say now that I dont see Al as being the saviour but I do believe as many others do that until he gets it we will be in a permanent state of limbo, no manager will feel safe in their job knowing the messiah is waiting to step in and I believe that his influence at this club is preventing us obtaining the services of some really big name managers.

For a moment there I thought that said Jimbo and was worried there are enough wankers in the world without NUFC adding to the population.

Should have said this earlier imo. Basically, if he'd been offered it he probably would have turned it down imo - now he hasn't he telling the fans 'look I haven't been offered the job but I want it'. Great player for us but he's a self-serving cunt imo.

Some of the best managers in the world are/have been self serving cunts

The difference with Shearer is that I'd like to think that he wouldn't be using us as a stepping stone for one of the bigger jobs. Not that that has happened in recent history as I'm sure we're all aware.

Whats the feeling of Shearer as manager, KK as his no 2 and Sir Les and Rob Lee as coaches?

Would certainly get the fans behind the team.

Surely a manager that provides wins would do that...

We need to waken up and realise this isn't 1995/96 and stop living in the past.

Yup he's playing it clever IMO.

I doubt he really wants to come now, but if directly offered it I suppose he might..... but if the club go looking for him it would give him a lot more scope, security and excuses if things didn't go too well.

Otherwise by not ruling himself out he leaves the door very much open for the future when he really might want to have a crack.

I meant from day 1. You reckon McClaren would get that?

It's true Ashley wanted to meet KK when he was in the Toon recently. KK wouldn't even do that, i.e. meet him. ITK  It worries me that the owner would even entertain getting Keegan involved tbh.

No and I never said I wanted him either?

I dont see a problem being on the coaching team. He is great motivator.

I love him tbh mate, my problem with it is comments from him like him not having watched a match since leaving Man City and the way he seems to have completely distanced himself from professional football. You never even see him as a pundit (not that you have to be a pundit but you know what I mean). I think it's pure sentimentality getting him back.

Perhaps, but when he retired he spent his time playing golf in Spain (or something like that). I doubt he kept up with it a lot in the that time. However, reading his recent interviews I dont think he has any intention of returning to football coaching anyway.

True, I just don't think it would work second time round.

We are running out of options though ! :panic:

I still rate Burley (having only seen little of him at Southampton though). But thinking about it, imho a Shearer/Burley combination for example could work similar to a Klinsmann/Löw combination did for Germany.

My god I have read this thread in disbelief :panic::D What has happened to your rational thinking guys? You all must (forgiveably) have Geordieitis!!!

Im sure last time I was on here none of you wanted BigAl for the job (yet) It must be the threat of having Harry or McLaren that has addled your brains!

There is a case of 'get it over with now' I know, I adore Shearer, he is my hero and I want him to manage this club oneday but I want him to come here armed with experience along with his passion for the club, I could not bear for him to come now and it go terribly wrong :D
