newcastlebroon 0
Bad move. Really bad move. Football has changed since Keegan was our manager last. Other managers would make mincemeat out of his tactical mongness. Seen it at City towards the end of his reign. load of bollocks. Players win games. Not tactics. Go back to Championship manager. How many "tactical geniuses" have outdone Keegan ? Tosspot comments like this that you have made, make me laugh. You sound like Souness tbh
Sima 0
I agree, fine tuning and attention to some details on a game by game basis. However, "tactical mongnes" is a phrase straight out of the book for wankers, considering such mongness got to 90 minutes of the title. Let me explain this to you again. Why do you think Allardyce was struggling ? He didn't have the right players to play the tactics which he wanted to use. He refused to alter those tactics and relied on being given money in January to solve it. That's the way I see it anyway.
JawD 99
Id agree in that to an extend. I dont think Owen or Martins suited his style at all. But, he brought in enough of his own to make it mostly his. Just for some reason seemed to think a team of 10 defensive midfielders would do the trick. How can someone not make use of talent like Owen, Zoggy and yes even Martins pace though ? Anyone who attempted to play football, would have got more from players like this. If anything, it was Sams "different" tactics which proved his downfall, and is also the pont I'm trying to make. Basically, its all about good players, playing in their best positions, with desire, confidence, in a balanced team with a good shape, and let the opponents worry about you. Tactics are mainly paying attention to strengths and weaknesses of your team mates, and having an awareness of where your opponents are most dangerous and most weak. But never to the detriment of your own players. Sam has joined a list of managers at Newcastle who thought it was their tactics playing the game and not the players. You can't tie talented players down with too much tactics. Expressing their ability is how they beat inferior opponents. I think I was agreeing with you Im saying sam was using tactics that didnt suit the players like Owen and Martins. I still dont doubt that Owen could make an impact (yeha when fit) and martins could be more useful if used differently. As said abovem Sam was to pig headed about using his shitty tactics despite not having the players (mostly) do to it. To me, as you say, when you have Martins, Owen, Zoggy and now Duff back, you would think the tactics would be based on pace and good movement. Not what we were seeing. Just expanding my thought. Can't get my head around the fact that the best team we've all supported at NUFC was slated for being "tactically naive", and people are still spouting how hugely important tactics are !!!!!! So yes, but I also think that playing at this level, has to be about playing with pace and movement anyway. It was Sams failing that he wasn't able to adjust and see this. Sadly, if he was really going to go down the road of buying players that would have played like Bolton, I'm glad he's gone because it just wouldn't have been successful.
