Tom_NUFC 0
I was in town this morning, and another I've heard is McLaren temporarily, and then Mourinho in the summer. I'd be dead set against McLaren, even temporarily. I'm not sure about Mourinho, he gets results, and although his football is better than Allardyce's it's still not the prettiest. I'd probably acceopt it though. Anyway, it's just another rumour at the minute. I fear that I might have made an idiot of myself though. I went up to SJP to pay for the cup replay against Stoke. All the cameras were lined up along Strawberry Place, opposite the Gallowgate and the bottom entrance to SJP at the SW corner. I avoided them, and walked down to have a look in at The Back Page, which is a NUFC/Football/Sports bookshop just down the road from St James',and is owned by a couple of blokes who run the NUFC fanzine The Mag. I went in there partly because there were a few things in there I wanted to buy, and partly for a bit of craic about what was happening. Sky talk to them quite a bit, and unlike the Charvers who stand outside SJP, they actually know what they're talking about. Anyway there were a few people in and we had our say. I said what I thought, and one of the blokes goes "that's interesting, can we use you as a vox pop?" He was from Sky and was in interviewing Mick, the co-owner for Soccer Saturday. I was a bit reluctant, but eventually agreed. At least it's in the shop rather than up at the ground with the charvers trying to get on SSN. Tom_NUFC 0
What was your opinion? I'd rather keep Pearson than bring McLaren in on a temporary basis. I said what I've said on here a few times, that if you're going to give a manager time, you've at least got to see signs of improvement, and we haven't seen that. He started asking me about Redknapp, and i said I wasn't sure as there's something about him that I don't like, but I can't put my finger on it But that he'd be a big improvement on Allardyce. He asked me who I wanted as manager, and I said I honestly don't know, which is true. I said, I can think of a few managers I don't want, and said I don't want McLaren, and I don't want Shearer because he's unknown as a manager and would be a big risk, and if it went wrong, it'd be bad for the club and for him. I'm still confused. What is about Mourinho's football which isn't "good"? Or are you pining for the old Keegan style days of no matter what the result is, we'll entertain...? Mourinho rapidly brought domestic success to a club that was effectively 'sleeping' almost as much as we are. His time at Chelsea came to an end because he was fed up of interference to team matters from the non-footballing personnel. And frankly, who can blame him?? Do I think he's a realistic prospect? No. Would I welcome him as our next manager? Damned fucking right I would! And anyone who says otherwise is a few sandwiches short of a picnic! Shearergol 0
Chelsea played some wonderful football under Mourinho. I don't know why people can't remember it. I think that people expect every team to play like Arsenal now. Not gonna happen.

Sky aren't saying it on the telly, but from what the Sky blokes in the Back Page earlier were saying, they reckon it'll be Redknapp. Hes come out and said he doesnt want it? This whole episode is smacking of when we sacked Robson. Certain quarters wanted him out for a while and now he's gone are wax lyrical about which (frankly unrealistic) target they want to replace him. The rest feel that it's been done at a bizarre time (in a transfer window) and worry about the impact it'll have on the club. The early favourite (Bruce, then - Redknapp, now) quickly rule themselves out. Shearer categorically states that he's not ready for the job yet. I just hope to fuck that we don't end up with a similar sort of situation as we did back then - paying another club a shit-load of cash to release their manager who they'd considered sacking in the non-too-distant future anyway.... Interesting stat I was reminded of at lunchtime was that Michael Owen has played 26 times for Newcastle and is about to be working under his 4th permanent manager! I think that people expect every team to play like Arsenal now. Not gonna happen. I agree - they had a "ruthless bastard" approach to away games which I liked (and hoped Allardyce would bring) but on top of that their home approach was excellent. I remember my ideal being Dalglish making Keegan's team into ruthless bastards - it worked in his honeymoon period but then he stupidly decided he wanted "his own team". "We want entertaining football we dont care if we loose, we just want entertaining, ala Liverppol 4-3" Stupid, I want to fucking win!!! I do care if we lose. I would take less exciting football (although not as dull as Allardyce) if it meant winning something. I'm just idealist/greedy I suppose. I want to win, but I want to do it in style. And I would also say that I would take winning every day over entertaining football although I really don't think you can have one without the and anyone who thinks Chelski fans were coming away from Stamford Bridge feeling like they weren't being entertained is deluding themselves. There is nothing more entertaining than seeing top class players winning every week.

We weren't winning many games under Allardyce though and just scraping the ones we did get against crap sides. The reason the football was dull was because we were shit. If we were a good team we would by definition be playing much more entertaining football.
