Scottish Mag 3
I do not know if I am trying to convince myself this or not but I just feel we may be pleasantly surprised by who we appoint. Yesterdays events make no sense at all what with Mort recently giving Sam backing and calling all talk of his exit tedious, over the last week (including yesterday afternoon) trying to sign Sams targets and having him conduct press conferences only for him moments later to get the bullet. As Isegrim stated yesterday all signs are surely that we have been given the green light from someone who is interested in taking over. The calibre of the manager is also in question for me. Whilst the media want us to believe Redknapp, Hughes etc are the favourites look at who has been touted by them over the last couple of years Venables, Jones and Hoddle. Ashley has spent a hell of alot taking over the club and has, out of his own pocket, cleared our debts. I just cannot get my head round him employing someone like Redknapp or Hughes who have no experience of great success. Look at the other managerial appointments clubs who have has big takeovers have employed Mourinho, Benitez, O'Neill, Sven etc all proven winners. Many of us, myself included, think that going for guys like Lippi, Van Gaal, Deschamps, Mourinho etc are so unrealistic, and yes maybe they are, but I would like to see the club have the balls to at least attempt for managers of this calibre. If it takes funny money whats the problem, it has worked often enough when trying to attract players to the club. Who knows I have been "surprised" by many of our last appointments, and not in the way I wanted. But for now I would like to believe we have the balls to approach a manager with pedigree and until Mike Baldwin is announced will keep on dreaming.... luckyluke 2
I'm really hoping so but everything we've heard (proper channels, will take our time etc) points to us not having anyone lined up.

Exactly... same quotes that always put out after the latest sacking. Everything points to the same old same old.
Barney 0
I'm expecting to take an enormous step backwards/side-ways and appoint Redknapp/Hughes/Hoddle/McClaren.

spongebob toonpants 3996
I really hope you are right. Ashley is a billionaire, hopefully this is where we find out he is going to use his cash to fund his ambitions, otherwise why would he have bought the club in the first place. Ken 119
hope you're right like. can't see why someone like mourinho would fancy it though Especially since Mourinho is on "gardening duties". He can't come back to the Premier League until at least the end of the season. I don't see us being managerless for half a season. Ashley and Mort may be new to the game but they aren't that daft...surely. Here's hoping it is someone else top notch though... sammynb 3355
You're listening to the same media that told us constantly how Ashley was selling up two weeks after he bought the club and every week since. Remember how he's going to buy spuds???? They don't know what is going on so they just make shit up. You were sick of them spouting shite before so why do you believe it now? Gemmill 44878
Re the point in the original post about this making no sense because of Mort's comments: there's nothing to say that Mort wasn't being completely genuine when he dismissed talk of sacking Allardyce the past week. It's possible that Ashley just made his mind up and wielded the axe yesterday. Obviously Mort will have known sooner than Allardyce but it may have been as much of a shock to him as it was to Sam. peasepud 59
Not sure if this has been said in some other thread (too much to keep track of) but... there could be a more sinister reason for the sudden sacking, it could be possible that something is about to hit the fan regarding Big Sam and we wanted to be distanced from it. It would explain the mutual consent and all that malarky. If so, then we could be on for a long journey

A sort of "if you stick your nose in here, then I'll leave" type thing, but who knows. I'm amazed how amicable Allardyce is sounding though.
