Australia Give up on WC Qualification Hopes

Old skool

I see they are trying to get the 2018 World Cup. Does this mean they have now shelved plans to join the Asian Confederation after chceking out the competition? Presumably they'll keep hammering the Solomon Islands only to lose to the 5th best team in South America when it really matters. They should watch out though, surely as the most recent World Cup qualifiers from Oceania, New Zealand have a better claim to be hosts tbh.

Hmm, what about a proposal that the host nation has to qualify, too.

EDIT: Ah diddums, too late.

Haven't they changed the rules so that the hosts still have to qualify?  Or is it just the current holders that they changed it to?

If they haven't made that rule change then they should in time for the 2018 WC.

At the minute, it's just the current holders that have to qualify.

2014 tbh. Or am I being whoosed?

No whoosh!

As I understand it, England can't go for 2014 because of the FIFA rotation thingy. The next time the Coupe de Monde (sp) will be held in Europe will be 2018 iirc.

I think they are bidding but they've hosted it much more recently ('78 compared to '50).
