Mort rejects Allardyce talk

Newcastle chairman Chris Mort has moved to reject the speculation over Sam Allardyce's future.

Mort insists the Magpies are not actively recruiting a replacement for the under-pressure Allardyce.

Allardyce has found himself in the spotlight once again after a run of poor results which has brought the club just one point from a possible nine over the Christmas period.

The likes of Alan Shearer and Martin Jol have been mentioned as possible replacements for Allardyce, but Mort has rubbished the rumours.

"All this makes me laugh and I find all this speculation tedious," said Mort.

"There is a different name every week and there is just no truth in it."

Its fine saying that. Now he needs to at least give him until the end of the season. If he maintains that stance, hopefully the wolves will back off (media) and the pressure will ease. We might then start seeing some improvement.

Thats true. He's in a no win actually after the window. If he doesnt spend, then Mort/Ashley dont support him and he is gone in the summer. If he does spend (more than a token amount) he has to get it right quickly as he will have had two windows to get it right.

While some say the city game is crucial, for me its the Stoke game.

The performance against Chelsea was a vast improvement but some of the tactics were still questionable. The only thing that is consistant about the team is inconsistancy.

Allardyce needs to sort out the best formation (4-4-2) and play the best players in their proper positions to get out of this situation

BUT I think nothing much will change and Owen will be stuck back into the starting line up and played regardless of form, Zoggy will continue shoved at full back and Smith will be left in midfield

Considering the FA cup is our only chance of winning anything this season the displays of the players should speak volumes for their commitment to both Sam and NUFC, lets see what happens eh?

Coming out and saying his position won't be reconsidered until the end of the season would be a huge mistake if you ask me.

Has he said that?

What I meant was that he should give him until the end of the season at least. Not that he should actually come out and say it though. What Im getting it, is dont come out and say that and then fold to media pressure and sack him making yourself look weak.

How would the wolves know to back off, and the pressure be eased by a private agreement?
