Might walk up the road and go sit in the park with the lass and a bottle Veuve Clicquot to watch the fireworks at midnight. Hopefully this year though we won't be surrounded by out and proud smoggies who were here for the ashes :good:

in response to that alex, I'd say that equally university can give people the carte blanche they'd need to express themselves. I know that I've changed since Uni, but I think I'm better for it, I'm able to see more arguments and while I may disagree with them entirely, I'll still understand what it is they're rattling on about.

I've a naturally changeable character, something that's useful in a work environment and when you've a few diametrically opposed circles of friends.

I know you weren't mentioning anyone specifically, but what you said has been levelled at me by "mates" from Newcastle, when really, I didn't lack the strength of character, I just realised who I really was at Uni and I do tend to soften/harden myself depending on who I'm with. The way I talk changes, the things I talk about etc. Everybody does it to some degree, I just tend to do it more than most.

That being said there are some right goons around who insist that every celebration needs a "theme", every piss up should be fancy dress, every meal should be "special". I like a little bit of pretention, irrespective of the abuse it gets on here, nothing wrong with going to a nice restaurant to eat nice food, wearing nice clothes and holding nice conversation and all that jazz. But There's folk I know who will wear those stupid fluffy dresses, with gauche make-up and flamboyant hair to the local pub on a thursday night :good:

I don't mind people changing a bit mate, that's inevitable. It's the complete character and accent overhaul just through hanging out with some new people during term time over a period of 3 years I can't get my head around.

I've left it until today to think of something to do, so we're just off to the local with some friends.

Never really liked New Years Eve, not sure why. Went up to Edinburgh in 2000/01 which was probably the only time I've enjoyed the celebrations.

What a load of bollocks worst night of the year, everywhere packed full of cunts who act like or do only drink once a fuckin year. I haven't gone out on New Years Eve for the last 3 years and don't fancy changing that, bring on the 1st when all the NYE lot are at home feeling sorry for themselves, and the proper drinkers are out.

I used to go down the Quayside on a NYE literally do well over £100 in, end up so pissed I remember nothing after a certain time, and have a two day hangover. That = nah now. :old cunt:

My accent's all but gone, but it's not a conscious decision. If I was hiding where I'm from or embarrassed, then that's something else. I'm not, I just happen to change my accent depending on the audience. When I visit Irish relatives I'll say things like "Will you be wanting a cup of tea" after about three or four days. It's completely automatic and I don't even realise I'm doing it until it's pointed out.

probably an urge to be accepted, fear of rejection.. that kind of thing. :good: Not bothered about it really, just bored of people telling me (which I know you're not ) I'm trying to hide where I'm from, or I'm embarrassed.

I used to enjoy them when I was 14-18 here but other than that fuckin pish, however I had a great NYE in London for the millennium.

Another thing I hate about NYE when you're at home even, cunts who live local, especially neighbours you can't stand, you speak to them once a year, yet they feel the need to knock and your door pissed as fuck, talk shit for 2 hours, drink your drink and fuck off - well fuck off I don't want you here.

It wasn't a dig at you btw. I was thinking of people I went to school with.

Well i dont like going out on a New years Eve cause its full of people fighting about nothing.

I had a cracking one in Dublin a few years ago like, funny thing is over there when they start trouble the police or ''garda'' turn up on bicycles, good night out though and one of the best weekends ive ever had.

However due to my refusal to go out it seems i have nothing to do this year. and my brothers at work so im on me bill.

INTERNETASTIC, what a cliche!

Partyng on NYE is for teenagers, secretaries and the socially inept only. Definitely amateur night.

I live ten minutes from the sea, so its possible we might take a walk down and watch the fireworks.

I have got a shitload of booze in the house though, and I am planning on giving up for a while, so I will probably get bladdered, knock on all the neighbours doors, and yadder on drunkenly to them for a couple of hours. I havent spoken to them since last year, I dont think they like me. I hope they've got some decent booze in

I wonder if he was sitting with Manc Mag he would start talking Jamaican? What a cock!

Say the littlest big man.

I'm a natural sponge for accents and affectations of dialect and tone. Not my fault.

and I was always a pretentious little oik

I'm going round Stevie's to drink all his drink and tell him how much I hate mackems and anyone who desn't live in the NE postcode is a coont, then I'll ask why he lives in a Northumberland village 8 miles from SJP.

Nah not really Steve, you wouldn't get a taxi out that far this time of year :good: . I'm staying in with some lager and the other half of the xmas bottle of Jack I haven't necked yet, because, just as I predicted, 2008 is starting out shite, and it hasn't even started in this hemisphere yet, and like Stevie I gave up towning it on nye years ago, total con job that it is.

happy crap year everybody.

The best thing about this thread is The Fish trying to defend the fact that he's changed his accent and does poncy things like have "champagne suppers" when no one was actually having a go at him. :good: Blatantly got a guilty conscience because deep down he KNOWS he's turned into a pretentious fanny.
