Noelie 103
so when we played with Duff on the left, milner on the right, Emre in the middle (as many people have said were the "obvious" mistakes) we still play shite. But you haven't mentioned he made 5 line-up changes to Saturdays team which salvaged a point from the bottom team. No Rozenhal, Cacapa, Barton, Butt, and Martins. Still played Zoggy at left-back and put Viduka on his own up front. another bad result and another bad performance. I'm concerned we've lost the dressing room. I'm concerned we lost another match to a bottom 3 team. I stil believe that Allardyace has the ability to take us forward Well I don't, he brought in 7 new players which should have moved us forward at least a bit but we've gone backwards. Fans are impatient and want the answers now. And so they should be, and they should be getting the answers, NOW! It's not going to happen overnight and no matter how much we'd want it to, manegrials merry-go-rounds don't work. You're right, it's not going to happen overnight but we're half way through the season now and we're worse than when we started and I'm getting sick. I'm happy to put money on us finishing around 6-9th. I'm willing to do this on the condition we don't sack Sam Allardyce. How much money you willing to put if Allardyce is sacked? The Fish 11053
Nothing, because you cannot predict what yet another managerial change will do to the players. Let alone the utter lottery that is Newcastle's approach to mangerial signatures I get the impression the people who want Allardyce gone are under the impression those of us who are willing to be patient for the entirety of the season are happy to see bad performances or are happy with bad results. I can only speak for myself when I say that I'm not. I am however, willing to put my personal feelings to one side for long enough to see that the long term goal of Newcastle United is to challenge for the English title. We cannot afford to keep wasting seasons by changing managers and expecting immediate results. It's short sighted and childish. I'll give Sam the season, we're not going to be relegated and we're not getting into Europe (through the front door), and we were never going to be relegated or get into Europe. This season was ALWAYS about wholesale changes behind the scenes, changing the way Newcastle United is run from top to bottom. So We were always going to be out of most races before the season began. I'm content to wait.
NJS 4446
"We were never going to get into Europe" Where do you think Man City will finish Fish? If the answer is top six (which I think is possible) can you explain why the task for NUFC is/was so much greater?
The Fish 11053
"We were never going to get into Europe" Where do you think Man City will finish Fish? If the answer is top six (which I think is possible) can you explain why the task for NUFC is/was so much greater? They'll finish about the same as us to be honest. I think people will suss them out. The task at NUFC was greater because of the shambles we had behind the scenes, Sven inherited a decent bunch of young players (Richards, Johnson to name two) who not only are good enough to challenge for a starting place, but they also play with a fire and passion not seen in our own players. He's also had the benefit of a very good European reputation, His name will be more attractive to players all over the world than Sam Allardyce's. He will have greater scouting network at his disposal thanks to this reputation, but also the many contacts he made when he was in the England job. Scen has had months to while away waiting for the right job opportunity to appear on his lap. Do you honestly think he would have stuck his head down the loo for that time? His imports have done remarkably well in their first half season. Elano, Petrov and the full backs (whose names escape me) have all bedded themselves into the Premiership very well. But remember; Tomasson, Luque, Viana and Pistone all came with big reputations. Viana and Pistone were two of the highest rated youngsters around when we signed them. None of those worked in the Premiership. These gambles aren't restricted to Newcastle either. How many Liverpool strikers have flattered to deceive, how many Man U players have been expensive flops? This could be better scouting, but even if that's true it's another reason why Sven has had a less difficult task than Sam. Don't get me wrong I believe Eriksson is a top class manager and Man City have done very well to get him when they did as I was sure he'd be a shoe in for the Madrid or Barce job when they came up again. I also think Sam Allrdyce is the man to arrest the slide into obscurity that faced Newcastle. I hope this answers your question, I'm a bit tired

Sorry but I laughed at "People will suss them out" - that should be Allardyce's epithet.

I know - I just find it ironic considering the end to last season Bolton had and our start - it seems to me people have sussed big Sam's "way". Dave, Allardyce inherited a squad that included N'Zogbia, Martins, Owen, Solano, Butt, Emre, Given, Harper, Taylor and even Dyer and yet you claim Sven had more to start with?!?? The difference is a manager that is able to work with what he is given as opposed to a manager that has one way or the highway, again! It's right in front of your eyes marra, just open them and look! Id keep your money. (no really, give it to me ). I just cant see us climbing back up the table. We're now in 11th and really think we should be watching out for the likes of Spurs who I firmly believe will leap frog us. We have some tough games coming up now. Guest alex
This selection in particular smacked of a manager who doesn't really know what he's doing at present or how to put things right. I'm not in the 'sack now' camp but I think Allardyce is slowly running out of people who are willing to give him a chance. So far, he's done very little to suggest he is capable of taking the club forward. We're desperate for a couple of people in the side who can put their foot on the ball and play a bit. The football we're playing at the minute, if you can call it that, is absolutely dreadful and we've been canny lucky to pick up the points we have recently. JawD 99
Pretty much my feelings. I'm loath to start shouting for him to be given the push. Its too easy to do and its never worked before (for us). Thats pretty much irrelevant though and we'd need good thought put to any such a move before it was done. I actually cringe when I hear people shouting for Shearer to come in. It might have worked for KK, but that will never happen again and the sooner we put those days behind us the better. Long gone. Yet, like most, Im just sick to fuck of the football being played by us. I thought Sam could work and more and more I think I was wrong. Small club manager used to a small club mentality from fans and players alike. Thats no disrespect to Bolton. Its clearly not working. We have improved not one bit and in fact, are currently worse off compared to last season. Im also slowly starting to hear more excuses slip into Sams excuses. The lastest being the squad are "some" his own players and some inherited. But, like he likes to tell us, he's the expert.
Kid Dynamite 7301
His tactics are crap and his man management skills dont look much better at the minute. A decent manager needs at least one of those qualities, if not both!

I don't disagree, I think Given is one of the best players in the Premier League, I just think if he was a wee bit taller he'd be truly world class, I think over the last few games he's only been let down by his lack of height rather than technique or ability.
