Breaking News: Butt Pens New Toon Deal

NICKY Butt has put pen to paper on a new contract which will keep him at Newcastle United until the end of next season.

The 31-year-old's current deal expires in June but the midfield star has now agreed a one-year extension with the option of a further year beyond that.

Butt signed for the Magpies in the summer of 2004 and has made 93 appearances scoring three goals for the black and whites.

Decent at home, but appalling away.

Worth a new deal anyway though.

Never said otherwise. (Deliberately leaves out safety wink)

Aye, sorry - I knew you didn't say otherwise. I was just saying that he's worth keeping as a reserve at least anyway (should we sign a better DM).

I concur.

I hope that was said tongue in cheek. Hed fit in lovely with our mix of skillful creative midfielders.

Alex was suggesting keeping Butt as cover if we signed a better DM.

I think we all realise where the priority lies and are hoping for someone like Arshavin or Diego.

Is Sissoko better than Butt?

I can't say I rate either that highly but would probably pick Butt out of the two.

Sissoko is woeful. He's a walking yellow card and we're already well stocked in that department.

Sissoko is a good player. Until he has the ball. Amady Faye isn't too different tbf. I think you can guess from that that he isn't quite what we need.

he's a good destroyer in the middle of the park but his touch and passing are worse than butts (which, whilst ok are nothing special).

best holding player in the premiership this season for me is mascherano. doubt we could afford him though.

He's not though. He gets booked with his first tackle and spends the rest of the game covering ground. Have we not moved on from Scott Parker?
