G'day lads and lasses or is that mates and sheilas?

After 4 years at uni and 2 degrees later i am starting as a school teacher at my new(old prac school really) school next year and i have the year 4/5 class. I was wondering if anyone had any awesome themed ideas for the wee tackers! I was thinking of doing the Titanic and then incorporate disasters into it later on. But i am sure you smart english folk have some cracking ideas, so let me here them.

I was going to paint a gigantic mural of a boat on the back of the wall. So any ideas on your theme or any additions to mine are fine and dandy.

Year 4/5 is basically ages 8-10ish.

My daughter's class has just finished doing Pompeii as a theme, sounds like they really enjoyed that, can't go wrong with Volcanoes or Dinosaurs with kids that age.

Two things kids love - Dinosaurs and Ancient Egypt. Not quite sure why. Or how you could combine the two for that matter.

I'd go with dinosaurs, they're the future.

If you've already started work on the Titanic theme you could maybe take Alex's advice on board.

"What did you learn at school today?"

"Mr Wells told us about when the Titanic sank."

"And what did he tell you?"

"That a huge t-rex bit into the ship and that's why all the water got in."

Peadophilia?

Just an idea - you don't have to run with it!

Didnt take long :icon_lol:

I would go for the "what Britain used to do with criminals in the 1800s" it will work on two counts, 1 its historical and two they can research their family tree as well ;)

I was actually thinking of doing convicts and the such, so your idea pud isnt as bad and stupidly hilarious as it sounds :icon_lol:

isn't it guided by the curriculum and methods (quest etc). bit pointless putting up pyramids and a sphinx if you're studying the tudors.

Concepts and ideas they need to learn are guided by the Curriculum (so if they are at the level where they need to start learning about fractions then i would introduce this... etc) however i can (if i want to be cool) choose a theme to run all the ideas around.

Also just a heads up.... i am coming over to England either later on next year and guess what... I am going to be teaching your kids. Isnt that a scary thought

What could be a better theme than our faith in Lord God, and the glory of not being taken in by the devils work that are the fake fossils sent to test us.

Hallelujah.

It is a Catholic school so that is already done ;)

I'm not letting my kids grow up in Australia (not that I was planning to) if this is how the teachers come up with their ideas.

What next, me in 10 years or so posting "so guys I'm operating on somebody's brain tomorrow. Any ideas which bits I should take out?" ;)

Seeing Western Australia was settled by free settlers and not as a prison colony, that would mean Wellsy's doesn't have any of us convicts to work with!

I'd suggest he goes with the subject of humnimals (or half creatures), that strange species of humans animal crossbreeds that somehow have succeeded in surviving. The centaur, the minotaur, the sphinx, the satyr and the little known Peterpig or peasepud found in the north-east of Ingerlund (and in certain parts of Ireland tbs tbs).

why not teach them something useful? How to steal a car parking space, how to make a sandwich, what different poos mean, how to avoid Penis picture scams, how to find stupid videos on the internet of fat german kids screaming at a computer screen.

etc.

For fuck sake Fish!

What are they going to learn in high school if you teach them all that and introduce them to drugs when they're in primary/junior/elementary school!

Kids, they just grow up so quick today > no fucking wonder!

A canny bit of convict labour ended up in Perth etc. due to a population shortage though. Yes, I paid attention to the guide when I went to the old Fremantle Prison :finger: South Australia on the other hand was settled almost exclusively by non-convicts.
