Whacking up your vitamin C intake doesn't do much to prevent getting colds but it's good for getting rid of them IIRC.

Has it conclusively even been shown to do that? Especially in supplemental form?

I can't be bothered to dig out the paper but I think so. Colds take care of themselves anyway mind so it's not going to make a world of difference.

All I've seen has been very mixed, with it perhaps reducing severity or length in some people (although that might be dietary issues etc.). Not seen anything very recent on it though.

At the end of the day though we're a society that prescribes antibiotics for colds so it just shows how much we like a good placebo.

tomatoes in almost every meal when I was in my second and third years. Big bag of frozen veg... not as good for you as fresh veg obviously, but they're easier to store and just as easy to prepare. There's bound to be an international supermarket near your gaff, so tootle down and pick up some new and exciting veg on the cheap.

I remember being told Chili peppers speed up your metabolism, and so they're a good way to stay slim, just pop one (sliced) in your sandwiches or bolognese or whatever.

Easiest way to stay slim is to stay off takeaways late at night, because you're basically buying them for tradition or to satisfy any imagined cravings you've concocted. If you have to eat, some toast is just as satisfying as a kebab.

Swearing off takeaway was the best dietary choice I've ever made to be honest. Pretty obvious, but bugger me you feel so much better without all that shite in your system.
