shearer was a very good player, but really was only at his absolute peak for 5 -6 years (93/94-98/99) if he would have been injury free then he would have scored more and been probably englands highest scorer ( imho)....

 

There aren't many players who stay at their absolute peak for more than 5-6 seasons though, at least not consistently. I'd say Shearer's 5-6 seasons at the very top aren't matched by many. Plus, he was still very, very good during the 2001/2002 season.

true enough bombadil. i've forgotten also that modern footballs that much tougher, and indeed in the case of the premiership, faster paced.

 

i have a feeling however that the 3 players i've nominated would cope easily during their peak....

This is still one of the greatest compilations I've ever seen, never seen a player who could control a ball at such frightening speed.

In Britain today people are so concerned with the pace of the game ball skills seem to have been forgotten. As a NUFC fan I cannot count the amount of times I have seen stupid passes go astray and possession lost to bad ball control.
