Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
Sven-Goran Eriksson back in for Michael Owen Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is ready to end Michael Owen's injury nightmare at Newcastle by tabling a bid for the striker in the January transfer window. Former England coach Eriksson remains an avid fan of Owen's having worked with his during him time as national coach and has kept in close contact since leaving the role last summer. Owen could provide City with the necessary firepower upfront that the club are in need of if they are to maintain their fantastic start to the Premier League season which, as yet, shows no signs of going off the rails. Ex-Real Madrid and Liverpool striker Owen is still sidelined with a thigh injury he sustained on England duty in the friendly in Austria last month, but is a couple of weeks away from making yet another comeback this season. While Owen has reiterated his desire to remain at Newcastle throughout his wretched campaign, the club could look to offload the 27-year-old to recruit some of the £17 million paid out for him back in 2005. Owen has 18 months left to run on his contract and manager Sam Allardyce has already stated that the player needs to prove his long-term fitness if he is to offered a fresh deal. Eriksson has made Owen his No 1 target in the transfer window and would have to pay out around £10m to sign the striker who has been blighted by injuries since his arrival on Tyneside. Owen has started only 20 games for the club having been sidelined with knee, foot and groin injuries the past two seasons. I've backed Owen more than most on here, but £10 million probably too good to turn down.

Ken 119
I'm quite happy to see him go. Apart from his woeful injury record, I think the style of play under Allardyce doesn't suit Owen and vice versa. If he stays with only 12 months left on his contract he won't be worth much either. He's lost his legs, but is still a pretty good finisher and pops up in the right places and runs the channels nicely but who will thread that ball to him? He can't gain any momentum with a decent run of games and it's a shame but if Sven is keen, then let him go. He'd need replacing though.
Guest James_coDurham
I see City as our direct rivals in terms of where both clubs are aiming to be. Would rather not sell him to them.

Depends who we get in for me. Owen out, Anelka and Arshavin in could be a good move for the club.
East Stander 0
Quite a few of the papers had this story yesterday so either Citeh, us or Owen himself "released" it again? Wish he could have a run of about 10 games on the spin to see what level he is going to come back to although I reluctantly agree that it appears his legs have gone. I'm more confident that Mort would at least make the manc mackems pay near to top whack though.

Fop 1
Re. the headline, how exactly does going to Man City stop him getting injured? Sven has mysterious ways........ Owen probably would manage to have the form of his life and never be injured if he went there though.

Guest alex
No way he'll get back to anything like his best form imo. He's about 75% the player he once was. I could see him going there and being relatively injury-free though.
bassplayerjj 0
unfortunately for us, I don't think the little wretch will be sold in Jan because of Martins' situatin in African Nations =( If it was summer transfer window he'd be gone.
