NUFC Player Statement

NEWCASTLE United players Shay Given and Steve Harper have issued the following statement in response to a story that appeared in a national tabloid newspaper on Tuesday ...

Having seen an article in one of this morning's national newspapers, we feel it is vitally important that Newcastle United's two longest serving players set the record straight.

The story that has appeared is total and utter nonsense. Sam Allardyce has the full backing and support of every Newcastle United player and we are all working together as one to bring success to the football club.

At Newcastle United we have a player committee which is led by our captain Geremi, and which also includes James Milner, Mark Viduka and ourselves.

Many issues are openly discussed between players and the Manager, as is commonplace at any club.

Far from that being "player power" or any other ridiculous description, this is sensible and constructive communication and a key part of the process of helping to build a stronger football club which will take us forward.

It is fair to say both of us are absolutely furious at what we have read today. It is mischief-making of the highest order and appears designed to unsettle everyone on the eve of our big game against Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Really happy with that.

Hopefully this will unite the players in their determination. If the majority of fans can't support them they could do with shite like this to get themd them up for performances.

Aye. Can't understand @yourservice's attitude like. The players can't win.

I wonder whether this was off their own bat or they were prompted to say something by Sam or Mort.

Had to be ghost written. If Given had really written it every sentence would end with "to be sure, to be sure".

They put one of your lot in the RVI, you send one of their lot to Richard Steadman. That's the NUFC way.

Anger is an energy

Tuesday saw yet more column inches devoted to the ongoing soap opera that is Newcastle United, with one quick rebuttal (below) only the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg of sh*t-stirring reportage.

In the case of the Sun "revolt" piece, another attempt at causing more discontent among supporters shares one similarity with their reporting of Joey Barton's comments: no Sun reporter attended either press conference.

The players will surely take strength from the current climate of media hysteria and hostility - to try and put on a display that's worthy of the support they still enjoy.

It would be nice if all our fans took a similarly defiant stance and followed the example of the travelling support at Blackburn on Saturday over the coming massive games.

This isn't about Allardyce or Ashley, Given or Geremi.......

It's about Newcastle United.

Sing your hearts out for the lads.

By booing, all you do is set fan against fan and give slackjaws a licence to print yet more reams of rubbish.

I like what they have written and i agree with it 100% and also agree with alex on what he said!

Its times like these that you cant even go on NO and read that forum, shocking!

Yep, I like that, could be a turning point I agree. Seige mentality and all that malarky.

:D

Thats what will happen, with it being Arsenal the crowd will be up for it,and come Birmingham it will be back to square one, typical Newcastle over the years and it's got worse with no sign of getting better.

Yup. I think it's time everyone at the club, fans, management, players and board circled the wagons and gave a big fuck you to the viewing sky sports audience tomorrow night.

"You can stick your fucking Sun up your Arse!"

Yes as I said on NO yesterday everything points to a Toon victory.

Apart from our abysmal run of form, injuries and the fact we're playing the league leaders.

Form is hugely overrated in football that's half the fun of it. :D

Nah, the team that got them to the top of the league would include Fabregas, Hleb, Van Persie and Diaby. We'll shit 'em.
