but the serial killer killed the people who were paying him!

you can't have a characters in a classically narrated film, or a film that portains to classical narration, that are purely allegorical. those aren't characters. and it sucks the soul out of the movie.

and in terms of the cinematography reflecting moral and spiritual 'emptiness' - that's an incredibly superficial and basic level for the film to be working on aesthetically.

also did anyone here actually understand the Tommy Lee Jones voice overs?

anyway enough. the film had some brilliant moments but it'll be years before the saliva that has been lathered all over this film has dried up. and that saddens me.

...the caravan park, the motels, Americana....These are the places we leave behind.

i didn't understand why you said 'we leave behind'.

The locations for NCFOM....These are all artifice these locations, they are timeless...They are the story behind 'the story' just as 'the killer' will always be the killer....It ain't like when Clint gets kicked outta town and he comes back for revenge...

Like carrying that ridiculous gas thing around...Yes he is attached to this one thing and it is so ridiculous as a killing tool it is alomost like a penance or a reminder that we are killing animals here...Are we??

but these locations aren't not framed within the story in a manner which alludes to this, in my opinion, they are merely mechanisms to identify locations which one associates with the 'South' (Motels / Trailer Parks) and to foster the various scenes which happen within them. beyond this I didn't feel any significance attatched to them even if there was intellectually.

in terms of the cattle gun, that's an interesting point but by saying it's perhaps symbolic of the slaughter of men like animals, again we are talking about a symbol that operates on a basic intellectual level beyond which there is no substance.

anyway man. you clearly love the movie. i don't. that's cool. but personal slander is a little much.

Get over yersel! :D

Still see no well argued reasons why you don't like it apart from a tabula rasa of film jargon.
