Meenzer 15869
In terms of raw emotion, it's got to be Tom Waits, but obviously he's not exactly what you'd call a technical genius. Ella Fitzgerald for a more conventional choice then.

LeazesMag 0
Crikey. My favourite group is Free, so on that basis I'd say Paul Rodgers. Why restrict this to rock music though ? Does anyone have a case for classical singers, for instance ? There are many singers that aren't my cup of tea, but I would acknowledge they are great voaclists. Some of the Tamla Motown singers, especially Levi Stubbs and Diana Ross [which I also like], were simply brilliant too.

Zathras 296
Hard to separate genres for this. Mercury is tough to beat. Roy Orbison's voice has a unique quality also. Ella Fitzgerald is another one along with Nat King Cole -- like I said, it's really hard to judge those first two against the second two; not enough common ground. NJS 4446
I know there are better "technical" vocalists than those in bands I like just as I know there are better "technical" guitar players. However its all about the the voice as part of the songs for me so I say Bono.
