She's been sentenced to 15 days in jail followed by deportation.

I'm surprised she didn't know better, working in a muslim country and with what happened about those cartoons last year.

that is true. But it shows the complete disregard that these tossers have for the modern world and the different ie better standards of behaviour that the PC brigade keep telling us about. The unfortunate thing being of course that we are allowing ourselves to be told by them what we can't do and say here as well. At what stage does anyone think these wankers will become civilised, by choice, as their numbers and therefore their influence increases ?

There's a slight difference in publishing insulting cartoons in a national news paper and allowing your pupils to name the class teddy bear.

That whole cartoon thing was caused by the muslims themselves - am sure they changed several of the cartoons into something more 'inflamable'. but this is besides the point.

botton line is - she was in another country and she has to play by their rules. whether she (or we for that matter) think those rules are stupid or barbaric or whatever.

surely as a teacher, she would be teaching the bairns at least a little about they own culture, customs, and traditions? she should have known.

i bet theres been alll sorts of diplomatic shenanigans behind the scenes.

But as i said - there country, their rules.

What people are forgetting imo is that she named a teddy bear, a teddy bear FFS. These people are nothing but savages living in the past imo

Who's forgotten that then? No one has ;)

The whole cartoon issue was quite disgusting.

They were published and nothing much said, then a Turkish minister got wind of them, and used them as a political tool.

By the time the situation "exploded" there'd been a sustained campaign (for more than 3 months) across much of the Islamic world trying to stir up a reaction to them. Eventually they got their tinder box to strike.

Ironically many of the images this hate stirring campaign was showing weren't even the published cartoons, like the badly photocopied image of a bearded french guy in a pig squealing competition being portrayed as someone dressing up Allah as a pig...... even the BBC reported this as one of the "cartoons" although in the end they admitted it was stupid mistake.

I thought this was a good point, and shows that racism and bigotry is easily taught.

It is interesting to observe that the parents complained that giving the name Mohammed to a bear was "insulting the prophet", yet their children obviously did not consider this when they voted for that name.

At what stage in their religious education do Muslim children receive detailed instruction in intolerance and the taking of extreme offence?

Read the thread on SMB, some of the thicko's on there are saying she should have been lashed. Not suprised though. I just find it worrying that there's still people in the world living like this, religion or not.

Although I'm disgusted by this whole farce, I think withdrawing aid over this incident, and posibly effecting the lives of hundreds of people is as gross as the thought of punishing that women.

Well put sir. Although I'd have used it as a bargaining chip if she was facing more serious punishment.

She is going to be deported when she comes out.

Why dont the UK government take a leaf out of their book and dont beat about the bush. Send all of them back the cunts!

Agreed. I would put the block on the aid for a few months just to show them that we can't be fucked around with, then ban religion in this country, anyone found practicing will get 40 lashes

Yeah part of me agrees but you're/we're propping up a sick regime. They are obviously using this woman as a pawn in a game where they are also playing directly with our goodwill so much like the "she should know the law" angle they must realise there will be a backlash which if it did cause suffering they would equally be responsible for in my view.
