sammynb 3453
Sadly to sack him would leave us in the same mess we end up in nearly every season and we'd have to scrap another season and start all over again once more for the umpteenth time. So as has been said, unless Ashley had a geunine top class manager nailed on to step in it would be mad to sack him. Never thought I'd see the day you would support a manager that is prepared to play 3-5-2 (and badly at that)!
Shearergol 0
I know I keep going on about it, but Allardyce has probably got less points in 2007 than any other manager in the premier league. However, I can't remember him getting his team selection so wrong at Bolton. Still, he's got it right with Martins. Absolutely shite today (although most of the others were too). Basically everyone in the middle and no width, but a definite back 4, Geremi at no time got far enough forward to say he was playing anything other than RB in a flat back 4! Jimbo 175
I honestly don't think Liverpool were that great today, we simply offered no competition at all, it was like a training session, an insult to anyone connected with the club. Yeah, Liverpool started well, were in control and passingit well, but for a spell after their first goal they got decidedly poor as if we'd dragged them down to our level, and had we actually been playing to win instead of going for a defeat we could at least have made a game of it! After their 2nd goal there was no way to judge Liverpool as we weren't even playing anymore! They did enough to have scored 8 but Given and Torres combined kept that down! Noelie 103
To those who have critized my impatience, and to those who kept saying it's only 12 games, GET A LIFE, it's now 13 and getting worse. When you hire a new experienced manager and he brings in 7 new players it is nothing short of being realistic to expect an improvement in the short term and more improvement on the long term. My biggest concern about Allardyce's competence today was his playing of Smith out of position wide right instead of Milner. Is his affinity for Smith due to Ashley's shirt? Jimbo 175
NEWCASTLE United boss Sam Allardyce admitted his side had hit rock bottom in the defeat against Liverpool, then declared: "We have to get ourselves out of it." United crumbled to a 3-0 defeat against the powerful Merseysiders at St. James' Park on top of the 4-1 beating by Portsmouth in the last home game, and Allardyce said: "We are in a difficult period at the moment and that has escalated into disappointing performances. "We are very disappointed as a group of players that we have basically gone out and really not done the job that we are expected to do. "Twice on the trot now the performances have been under par. And we have to put that right as quickly as possible. "We have to dig in and make sure we get ourselves out of this particular predicament. We've hit rock bottom at the minute and we've got to get ourselves out of it. There's only us that can do it, and that's by sticking together and getting a lot more players fit and showing a lot more grit and determination. "That was missing today, particularly after the second goal went in, and that's hugely disappointing." Big Sam said he "had to point a few things out" in the post-match dressing-room inquest then added: "We've got to take it on the chin and get together and make sure we get out of what is a bad run. "Of course, I never thought it was going to be easy against Liverpool with the injuries we had. We had a containing first half, then Stevie G pops up with an unstoppable free-kick. "But then the real disappointing thing was that after the reorganising of the team at half-time we concede a stoppable goal. And our heads went down. "At the moment we are not getting results so the pressure comes - we have to withstand that pressure and turn it round as quickly as we can." The Fish 10906
I cannot support yet another managerial change. I'm willing to wait until a few games after the january window at the very least. I'm as pissed off at the results and performances as the rest of you, but am prepared to be patient. I know that change will not come over night and the managerial merry-go-round is why the clubs around us have surpassed us in recent years. Everton, Portsmouth, Liverpool boards all stuck with their managers after poor seasons and poor performances despite booing from the fans and look where they lie now. To be honest I'm resigned to the fact the boo-boys will win out and we'll have yet another set back, losing another season to restructuring the club, another season for the new manager to use getting in his players, his staff and his style of play. Another season of abject mediochrity until he too is forced out by the impatience and capricious nature of the modern Newcastle fan. I honestly believe that, given support (both financial and terrace) Sam Allardyce will turn things around. Equally I believe things need to change quickly before his position is made untenable by boo boys and the media influenced masses

Jimbo 175
Time is not the panacea of all managerial troubles, many may point the finger at managers that have been given time to turn things around, such as Fergie at ManUre and Everton with Moyes, good examples but I wager neither of those fine managers ever displayed such utter ineptitude in team selection, formation and subsitutions as Sam Allardyce, give him more time ? time to turn it around or time to sink yet further ? yes it may be foolish to dump him if there is no replacement, but if I were the owner of NUFC I'd be making some phone calls. It's foolish to get rid of him unless the replacement is a 50 yr old Bobby Robson, a Ferguson (of any age) a Wenger etc. Realistically we're not big enough to attract that level of manager, we need stabilising and Sam Allardyce can do that if given at least 1 season. in any case, sacking Sam Allardyce now would send a message to all managers around the world. "You have 13 games to get it right or you're gone." Which is as terrifying as it is ludicrous.
Stephen 0
Todays tactics and substitutions completely baffled me. I honestly thought Sam was the man to take us forward, and maybe he still is, I don't know. I didn't expect a win today, but what I did expect was for us to make a game of it and battle to the death.
