khay 10
Bruce leaves Birmingham for Wigan Steve Bruce has left Birmingham City to become Wigan boss for the second time. Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed the three-year deal, with Birmingham City expected to release a statement later on Monday. Wigan will pay £3m in compensation to Birmingham and Bruce will reportedly earn £2m a year with the Latics. "You would think nothing of paying £3m for a player," Whelan told BBC Radio 5 Live. "To have a manager of his quality it's a very, very cheap price to pay." Steve Bruce will make Wigan Athletic a fighting machine again, that's what we've been lackingWigan chairman Dave Whelan Wigan have appointed Bruce, who had a brief spell in charge of Wigan in 2001, to succeed Chris Hutchings, who was sacked at the start of November after 12 games in charge. Last week, former Wigan boss Paul Jewell told the BBC he had rejected an "unbelievable" offer to return to the club. "Straight away when Paul Jewell decided he wasn't going to come back to Wigan, Steve Bruce was the man we wanted," Whelan told 5 Live. "He's a very, very talented young manager. He worked with me for six or seven weeks about five years ago. "I wanted to keep him then but his wife wanted to live in London and he moved on to Crystal Palace." Bruce was Birmingham manager for nearly six years but could have been out of a job in January if Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung's proposed takeover of City goes through. The Fish 11079
He's off to the Championship again then. Why do mediocre clubs swap managers?
acrossthepond 897
Bit of a step down for him as I consider Birmingham more likely to stay up than Wigan this year, but that's City's own fault for waffling on his contract for so long. Good boss, doubt he can save Wigan now though.

Happy Face 29
Why is Steve Bruce a good boss? I'd put him on a par with Bryan Robson as a good player who's never been able to cut it as a manager. I'm paricularly confused as to why Wigan want him back after his last 3 game stay (or something close to that). And when you've got a surname that could be a forename, your parents should never use Roger as a middle name. Steve Roger Bruce sounds far too much like gay porno direction. zico martin 90
I think he might not be wanted at Birmingham though. jumped before he was pushed by the new owners blatantly. He's done amazingly well to get another good contract after his debatable ability!

He's got a poor record imo whereas Allardyce has a good one. Mainly because he's never really finished the job anywhere. He's done ok at Birmingham but he's never achieved the stability Allardyce did at Bolton for example and Brum are probably a 'bigger club' with more potential. Both managers aren't exactly reknowned for playing attractive football though.
sweetleftpeg 0
Tbf, he knew his days at Brum were numbered with the new chairman coming in, he's got a good relationship with the current board who've probably given him the nod that the new bloke would get rid. Still, an interesting move when you think about the amount of stick Whelan and the wigan fans gave him when he pissed off after a few weeks the last time. Manc tosser. Guest alex
I never liked him (Allardyce). I always thought he loved himself. When he came, I thought he was a good man for the job though as we were skint and a shambles. I'm not sure he's the bloke for us with the new billionaire owner though. I'm also beginning to think I may have bought a lot of his scientific methods bullshit if it is that. I still think he needs and deserves a lot more time though. If he keeps making stupid selections and playing for draws against shit teams though he won't get it (or deserve it).

RlCO 0
Kind of puts the whole 'why would he take a step down' comments from the Brum chairman in perspective when we were apparently after Bruce.
