I put faith in his comprehension before yours mate. He's been at this longer than any of us.

True.

He needs time for sure.

But how much time?

4 matches after the end of the January Window?

Cool.

Could you send the memo round?

"No judging til then okthankyouplease"

I totally agree that we need new players in certain areas, but I firmly believe that a full strength 11 of our current squad should be performing FAR better than they currently are.

Given the quality which we undoubtedly have, I think we have under performed on too many occasions.

With Solano, Dyer and Parker away, only to be replaced by Barton and Geremi, neither of whom are particularly creative (nor have worked out particularly good at anything so far) it's not suprising we're missing a bit of spark.

But he's already gone through £20M to little improvement at either end of the pitch. He needs to get his signings performing.

Totally agree with you about Solano, but I don't think we are exactly lamenting the loss of Dyer or Parker.

Dyer never achieved his potential with us, but I think going forward he was a better player than any of our current midfield.

Only if N'Zogbia's playing left-back :)

I just wish that 6 million spent on Smith was actually used to replaced what Dyer brought to our attacking play when he was fit =/ Someone like Giles Barnes could have been picked up for that in the summer but although we had 4 strikers and a reasonable central midfield we go and spend 6m on Alan Smith...

Can't argue that, Sam brought in Enrique, Rozenhal, Cacapa, Beye, and Faye to defend. We have a defence that has allowed 18 goals against in 12 games, and 8 of those at home. That is an under-performing defense in anyone's book.

Considering that we have 19 goals for in 12 games, 11 of those at home, it's easy to see where the biggest problem is, at the back as usual.

splashing 6m on smith was a waste, but he might prove very useful as a striker in january. Oba away, and neither viduka or owen likely to be fit for the whole month.

Imagine having january with ameobi as the only fit striker!!!

Whats really idiotic is sam trying to play him wide of midfield, just insane behaviour.

"mentalist! there al mentalists!"

Don't listen to Lawrenson man. The defence performed well last year. Far better than attack.

Yeah, it's just a cliche that won't go away. Even Boumsong probably wasn't as bad as some of the media would have you believe and Bramble certainly wasn't. Not surprisingly they've latched onto Cacapa now. Bizarrely they seem to rate Taylor though. Last season scoring was the problem btw.

We have double the amount of points we had at this point last season.

I also continually read that we have not played any of the "big teams" yet, but at the same stage last season we only had 9 points in 12 games. 8 of the 12 games were played against teams who finished in the bottom half of the league.

We could have the best defence in the league for several seasons and that would still be brought out at any defensive mistake.

Under Robson our defensive record was very good in at least 2 seasons and it still never stops.

Excellent under KK too. In fact the "if you score two, we'll score three" mentality/style of play we supposedly had was even more evident in Man Utd at the time.

Aye I think it's just the only time the media really comments on Newcastles football is when we've just won 5-4 or just lost due to a stupid mistake and that just feeds the misconception.

Well that and when they struggle for something to say it's very easy for same old chestnuts are brought out and dusted off.

Yep.

This year it's spot on though. there's only 3 teams higher than us who've scored more goals, so as much as people complain about our dull, unimaginative attacking...it's paying dividends....probably because they're somewhat used to each other.

At the back however we've conceded considerably more than anyone else above us. You have to question the common sense in completely dismantling a defence that was working well. Buying six defenders who so far have looked very hit and miss (and certainly no better than who they replaced) at knock down prices rather than improving on the solid base we had with a couple of more expensive improvements in key positions has proved costly.

Getting rid of a number of players on your first day at the club was (I think) a terrible mistake. It hardly indicates a willingness for players to prove themselves and indicates that you'll base decisions on what you've heard rather than make your own mind up after watching them play.
