khay 10
By Craig Hope NEWCASTLE United defender Stephen Carr has announced his retirement from international football with the Republic of Ireland. The 31-year-old has represented his country on 44 occasions since making his debut against Sweden in 1999. But, with the Republic having failed to qualify for next summer's European Championships, the former Spurs ace has decided to call time on his international playing days. In an exclusive interview with nufc.co.uk Carr spoke of his pride at having represented his country but says that it's now time to step aside and let the emerging Irish talent come through. "I feel honoured to have represented the Republic of Ireland on 44 occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed my International career," he said. "It's a chance now for the FAI to re-build for the future. There are many good young players that are coming out of Ireland with the likes of Kevin Foley at Wolves that should get the opportunity to play now." from .co.uk
