The England fast bowler - known as the Ashington Express - helped wrestle cricket's greatest prize from the grasp of Australia during a sensational summer test series. And an added reward for the dyed-in-the-wool Magpie has come from Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd, who is to give Harmison his very own seat in the St. James' directors box - complete with a special plaque saying: "Steve Harmison - Ashes Winner 2005." Mr Shepherd told nufc.co.uk: "Steve is a great sporting son of the north east and everyone at Newcastle United is delighted that he and the England cricketers have won the Ashes back after all these years. "He's someone who always loves watching Newcastle play whenever he can, and we are happy that in the past we've been able to help him a little with his fitness. "Wherever he travels with the England team, he flies the Geordie flag with pride and is a great ambassador for the north east. "He makes no secret of the fact he's a big Newcastle United fan, so we're only too happy to offer him a seat for life at St. James' Park. "Everyone at the club has been cheering him on over the summer. All the players and even the manager Graeme Souness - who is a proud Scot! "Steve's had a summer to remember and I'm sure he'll get a huge welcome when he returns to the north east." Australia had dominated the Ashes since 1989, but they were surrendered following yesterday's drawn Fifth Test at The Oval which saw Michael Vaughan's England win the series 2-1. Harmison took 17 wickets in the series - including the crucial dismissal of Michael Kasprowicz to win the Second Test at Edgbaston - and also chipped in with 60 useful runs with the bat Yeh winning a poxy little site trophey is worth that, what about people who do actual work for the community etc? A mate of mine reckons anyone who scores the winner against the mackems should be given a job for life by the club - nowt special maybe just a meet and greet on match day but enough to recognise the achievment.
