i agree he's worth keeping. he's a frustrating player though. i think he's an ideal striker to have coming off the bench because he can change a game but you know he'll score a 30 yard screamer one game and then miss a tap in the next.

I've got a bit of time for Milner tbh. He's won me round as I thought he was very ordinary. He'll get you the odd goal, he works very hard for the side and provides plenty assists despite not being a great crosser. He's a pretty good squad player to have imo.

4 league goals in the time he's been here isnt great but know what your on about. Good squad player, pretty much like Martins. Martins is far superior in terms of threat rather than technical ability - neither of them are particularly good on that score. Both can be a passenger. We need better than both in the starting line-up if we're going to progress tbh

A striker is there to score goals, as long as Oba is scoring with some degree of regularity we shouldn't feel hurried to sell him. Espcially as we don't have anything better at the club. At the minute he looks like he's happy to fight for a starting place with Viduka, Smith and Owen.

Obviously Owen is 1st choice, Viduka and Smith would traditionally be the best fit for the strike partner-place... so Oba has to either work hard to usurp Owen or buck the commonly held perception that you need a bigman-littleman combo.

I personally like him and would like to see him stay at the club a while, but can equally understand the frustrations of other who tend to spot the misses rather than the goals.

Losing Martins would be ugly and unnecessary. How soon some of you have forgotten his performances last year. I believe Martins should be starting every game but if Big Sam wants to use him as a substitute I can see the logic in that too. We're not desperate for money here and although earlier it might have looked like we were overburdened with striking talent, Luque has gone, Smith seems locked in to midfield, Ameobi is rubbish and I'm not up for selling one of our three productive strikers.

(p.s. of course now Gemmill pops out of the woodwork. I don't recall hearing much of him while Martins was putting us in front against Spurs...)

That's probably because he was at the match to be fair.

:D Demonstrating some Magness. (ps what a fucking ridiculous concept, coined by a bloke who as far as I know has never ever set foot in Newcastle, never mind St. James' Park)

As for the other bollocks in your post, acrossthepond, about Martins' performances last year. Anyone who remembers anything other than goals remembers that the vast majority of them were sub-standard. Go and get your kicks on Route 66 and leave the adults to talk about football.

First bit: yawn. "As far as I know" isn't very far, mate - stick to football.

More importantly, I can't take anything you say on Martins seriously as your irrational hatred of him is well documented. Alex's point:

His performances last year, post-Spurs away were very ordinary in general. He wasn't that good before that either. I'm not saying he was shit last season, he did ok. His goals tally was bolstered by playing against some very ordinary teams in Europe however. What I mainly take issue with is the fact that people try and make out he was outstanding last season by pointing to his 17 goals (not bad for a 1st season in England I concede) but forget his 11 Premiership goals made him something like joint 12th highest scorer or something. It was an ok return, nothing more. And at times he was absolutely woeful. I know he was playing in a poor side etc. but he was a contributing factor to that often too.

is well taken but you'll note that nowhere do I say Martins is outstanding, and although he did give some outstanding performances last year, goals or no goals, he also gave some weak performances. I do however say that he is one of our three productive strikers and selling him would be a mistake, and I'll stick to that.

Also, you point out Spurs away but his Spurs away performance left a lot to be desired except for the obvious. Before the goal, he was virtually anonymous. I guess I do remember more than goals after all.

Enlighten me then. Please tell me how from the US of Stateside your Magness radar is picking up a reading.
