Allardyce under fire for tactics

Nobby wasn't a very good right-back tbh

and yet still better in that position than the likes of carr, ramage, huntingdon and all the other knackers who played there for us last season.

Yeah, that's praise indeed really, isn' it.

Considering the amount of work he had to do in the last window I think you need to reserve judgement on Allardyce until at least next summer's dealings before judging him on where he's taking the team.

Who's judging him in this thread?

Ooh, get you! Mr. Defensive

I take it that no one is then. :o

i am. he did well to sort out the defence because that was the priority but it was a good window, not a great one, because he didn't find adequate replacements for dyer or solano.

smith is NOT a replacement for either player. i think he should be used solely as a striker and we should bring in two creative midfielders during the next window.

You rate Emre, don't you? How often has he played under Allardyce? What about Barton? I take your points but I still maintain it's too early to judge and by recent standards it was a fantastic transfer window. Perhaps that isn't saying much.

i think emre has potential to be a good creative player for us if he gets over his injury problems and puts in a run of games but he doesn't give us an option on the right side like solano or dyer. those players weren't replaced in that respect. we've only milner who can offer much on the right now, unless you were to play duff on the right (another sicknote)

agree that the transfer window was one of the best in recent times - it was just a couple of signings short from being close to perfect. defensively we're looking better than we have in years but our midfield is unbalanced. too many battlers and not enough "door openers".

I get what you're saying. I just think the manager did well seen as two players decided they wanted to go to West Ham fairly late in the window, coupled with the priorities of getting the defensive positions sorted. Also, we aren't much worse off as Dyer is another sicknote and when he did sort out those problems last season he was very ordinary anyway. Nobby is past his sell-by date too I reckon. I totally agree re: Smith being a forward btw.
