sammynb 3710
Luke, forget Noosa it's like a middle aged, upper middle class, over tanned retirement village. Byron is great, and most of what Alex said is spot on. Regardless of what Steve says Melbourne in July is somewhere to stay away from, unless you want to hang out in the cold and grey, with antarctic winds blowing through you everyday. Sydney is ok weather wise, if it is snowing in the mountains then it gets a bit windy and cold but that usually doesn't happen until August. If you have the opportunity forget Melbourne or Sydney and get into central Australia. Ayres Rock, Alice Springs are two places that as you have travelled so far you really should try and see. There are flights out of Cairns to there. Also Broom on the west coast, is a place not to be missed but remember to cross the country by plane it is about 5 hour flight and about 4 between Cairns and Melbourne. Forget trains our rail network is hopeless and driving, well I drove Sydney to Cairns a few years ago and it was about 27 hours behind the wheel. Rob W 0
There are loads of serviced flats - by far the best way to stay in Oz if you don't go backpacking - they often have pools and parking and have a couple of bedrooms and a small kitchenette/dining area If you stay more than a few dyas they'll often cut you a deal How much were you looking at spending?
