tell me why.

edit; a quick browse of his lyrics -

A shimmy shimmy cocoa cocoa pu- pu - fuckin puffs bitch

It's the K-K-Kid Rock with the K-K-Kid Rock shit

I'm on top bitch and rock for tricks

tell me how lyrics like this are of virtue and not narcissistic.

jesus you just have to look at him to know he's narcissistic.

Oh you're one of them. A little Eminem fan boy that's listened to one song containing Kid Rock, because it features Eminem, and because you didn't like it your dismiss his musical ability. I suggest listening to songs such as 'I Am', 'Roll On' or 'Only God Knows Why'.

Your argument is a fucking joke. You could name any top artist of any time in music, and there'd be lyrics that you could pinpoint to try and belittle them. Prick.

Sure. You sell 15 million albums by being shite :)

15 million albums sold counteracts the opinions of all the patronising little social rejects on here, that feel they have to have exclusively be the only ones to know of an artist to think they're SOOPER talented. :)

Little little thompers how many times do you have to be told that how many albums an artist sells isn't a measure of how good they are?

Mariah Carey is case in point or for god sake even that other talentless hack you love James Blunt.

explain how Crazy Frog got to No. 1 ahead of Coldplay then.

Crazy Frog must be better as it sold more records. right?

taste has nothing to do with relativism. i'm sure everyone here is completely sincere with their tastes because it's easy to be found out if your not.

popularity has never, ever, ever been a barometer for the value or virtue of an artistic medium - in fact - through the history of 20th Century art - the greatest artists, in their respective mediums (Tarkovsky / Bresson / Chaplin in Cinema, Dahli / Bacon in Art etc.) are the ones who have commercially unsuccessful because their philosophies regarding their approach to creation is so ahead of it's time that their work doesn't fit within the aesthetic criteria of their epoch.

how you can argue Kid Rock has any value artistically, not COMMERCIALLY, is beyond me, and you've yet to do it. so go on. please.

I can't really understand when people argue too much about what is essentially a matter of taste. If you like it, who cares what everyone else thinks?

A lot of people on here would agree that Crazy Frog is the lesser of 2 evils compared to Coldplay.

Chaplin was by far the most hugely succesful star of the silent era.

Didn't he once enter a Charlie Chaplin look-alike competition and come 2nd? :)

:)

I always thought that was a myth.

I've seen footage of him teaching people the walk. I thought it was on a ship back to London though.

Out of interest Sloop...

Have you just finished your second year of University?

i'm academically about to finish my first but seeing as my course is a three year BA compressed into two years I can't really divide up my years.

why?

I recognise the patter that's all.

A lot of the student's on here tend to articulate discussions in their first and second year, i know i tried.

Then you forget about the 'Ideology of the image' and cultural relevance and replace it with.

''Kid rockz shit lolz!!1''

or something to that extent.

Anyway one of the films I worked on is being shown today, so wish me luck! :)

No, how many albums you sell IS the measure of how good you are. It's silly little forum-geeks that probably got punched at school that try to dictate otherwise on online forums.

James Blunt/Mariah Carey might not be to your taste, but they are very good at what they do, as so many people like them - which is an indication of how good they are.

So fuck off, people think they're fucking brilliant when they're dismissing 'mainstream' artists (not that Kid Rock even is mainstream) but it's just nonsensical .

Crazy Frog was a one off novelty. Coldplay have consistently sold records. Your argument holds no water.

Kid Rock still sells millions, despite his career spanning over two decades, he's still at his peak.
