He's technically serving his third match suspension when Villa play the day before before we take on Blackburn

NEWCASTLE United boss Graeme Souness was today handed a huge boost by the news Nolberto Solano has been cleared to make his Magpies return at Blackburn Rovers - a week earlier than expected.

The Peruvian returned to St. James' Park still to serve two games of a three-match ban incurred following a sending off for Aston Villa at Portsmouth on August 23.

As a result, United expected to be without the 30-year-old for the forthcoming games against Fulham and Blackburn Rovers, and the midfielder not available to commence his second stint in a black and white shirt until the visit of Manchester City to St. James' Park on September 24.

However, the Football Association have today informed Newcastle that the three games he will miss will be games played by Aston Villa, as he had already started his suspension with them.

Solano sat out Villa's game with, ironically, Blackburn Rovers on August 27. His ban will also include Villa's games at West Ham on September 12 and the home game with Tottenham Hotspur on September 17.

Providing those games are completed by Villa, he is free to play again after September 17. And because Newcastle don't travel to Blackburn until 24 hours later on Sunday, September 18, he now comes into contention for the trip to Ewood Park.

Solano is currently nursing a thigh injury and would have been a big fitness doubt for Saturday's game with Fulham anyway, irrespective of his ban.

But the news he could be involved at Blackburn is a boost for boss Souness, who already has key midfielders Emre and Kieron Dyer sidelined with hamstring problems.

He told nufc.co.uk: "Nobby's got a little problem with his thigh at the moment, but this news gives him a little extra incentive to try and get fit for the Blackburn game.

"He cannot wait to play for Newcastle again. The supporters cannot wait to see him again, and I cannot wait to see him play either!

"It's good news for us, and hopefully it's a sign that things are starting to really look up for us."

Totally agree with you there, bureaucrats must have been looking for something to do this morning, all dossing by the water cooler.

By the law of averages, sometimes these ludicrous decisions have to go our way. Why is this the first I can remember?
