marci 0
1656: Still going at Newcastle where the hosts are playing out time. England head coach Steve McClaren left before Michael Owen's goal! But I can see the sentiment in hoping Man Utd don't pick up points - we're (hopefully) going to be closer to them than we are the Mackems towards the end of the season... marci 0
8 points from 4 games, nice start. After the international break we go to Derby, hope for a win because after that we will have a tough run of matches.

Is it a concern that we have more internationals away for the weekend, so they won't be as rested as their Derby counterparts? Or will the break give the new players a chance to get to know the incumbent squad and the players striving for fitness another week to bring their game to a sharper level? Fop 1
Dear Big Sam: Thanks for putting Martins on. Next step: Take Owen off. Maybe next game you'll go the whole nine yards and take Owen off for Martins. Thank you. I'd bet on Owen scoring more often on being given a single chance than Martins, but at the moment probably still more Martins creating one. It's early in the season so I don't think any of lads will be extremely tired when they get back. Beye and Ernique hopefully will be ready to play, so as Emre and that will give us more depth in midfield, more players for Sam to choose from. Plus the players will get back on Thursday and thematch is on Monday so theres extra two days to rest or practice.

Dr Gloom 22182
sounded like a solid performance. good to see that sam has sorted the defence out. not conceding gives you a platform to go on and win the game (even if it was a late strike) - something we've rarely been able to do under our last two managers. Kid Dynamite 7181
Just got back from the match. The defence were awesome today, Taylor looks more suited to RB than CB. But the one down side has got to be Geremi. 3 games in a row now and he has been the worst player on the pitch. He has so litte vision and nearly always picks out the wrong pass. Hes also great at breaking up our counter attacks by dwelling on the ball for 5 seconds before passing it to the opposing team. As soon as Barton is back he needs to be dropped and a new captain installed. Cacapa looks like our best defender since Woodgate and Rosenhal isnt far behind. Played together today like they had been playing together for years. More of the same lads
Stephen 0
Very pleased we've got 3 points on the board, Wigan at home is a must-win if we want to push on in the top half of the table. A match-fit Michael Owen would have had a hat trick today. He's getting better but it's important that he gets games under his belt at this stage. Encouraging that we're also still unbeaten under Big Sam. EDIT: Credit to Big Sam in selecting Harper, the lad deserves it. MattM4 0
Taylor looks more suited to RB than CB. Yeah, thought he did very well. Considering he's been playing there for a while. A bit tricky for him going forward, but defensively solid today. Plus got himself a goal.
