Smooth Operator 10
So another case of friendly fire kills 3 of our soldiers and the Americans have come out and reiterated that no US military personnel will ever be handed over to UK authorities to face investigation or even help to establish what exactly happened. All the authorities have to go is US militairy reports on the incidents in question. This imo is a fucking disgrace. Surely they should be held accountable and some sort of international law should be imposed to ensure this?

All the authorities have to go is US militairy reports on the incidents in question. On the one hand yeah there should be a lot more access than just reports. On the other hand this isn't a fired on vehicles with mistaken identity issue (where someone is likely to blame), as the kinda situation they were in there's an awful lot that can go wrong, and probably no one is to blame as such (as much as the media want their scapegoat). This imo is a fucking disgrace. Surely they should be held accountable and some sort of international law should be imposed to ensure this? They've never signed up. Rob W 0
There are some stats that indicate in WW2 around 10% of casualties were "blue on blue" In this case an F-15 dropped a bomb from several thousand feet up - he was probably doing around 500 mph - circa 600 ft per second, then you have the question of how accurately they knew the position of the Brits and their own position - even GPS is only accurate to +/- 50 m on an instanateous reading . then there is the wind................ if you want REALLY close air support there are a lot of risks - unfortunately you occasionaly get casualties
