Besty 4
BEERSHEBA, Israel (AP) -A Hapoel Beersheba soccer player died minutes after collapsing during a practice session Wednesday. Chaswe Nsofwa, a 27-year-old striker, formerly played for Zambia's national team. Rescue workers tried to restart his heart for several minutes on the field before taking him to Soroka Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. "When we arrived we found the soccer player lying on the grass. We found his friends trying to help him,'' Paramedic Carmel Cohen told The Associated Press. "We gave him first aid, electric shocks and an external pacemaker, but despite all our efforts, he was declared dead at the hospital.'' It was unclear why Nsofwa collapsed, but temperatures on the field approached 40 degrees Celsius (100 degrees Fahrenheit) with low humidity. Nsofwa, who joined Hapoel Beersheba in the offseason, scored a goal in his team's 3-0 win over Hakoach Amidar Ramat Gan on Saturday. Sevilla midfielder Antonio Puerta died Tuesday, three days after collapsing during a Spanish league game. Other soccer players who have died after collapsing on the field include Benfica's Miklos Feher in 2004 and Cameroon midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe at the 2003 Confederations Cup in France. Wtf is happening? RIP!
Tom 14021
Fucking hell. Something must be done to get to the bottom of this! I know Puerta had deep medical reasons but these other blokes just seem unfortunate!!
duckerDavies 0
A former Black Country rugby player has collapsed and died during training. Super-fit father-of-two Gavin Tipper, aged 45, collapsed after a run with team mates from the Black Country Triathletes. He was taken to Sandwell General Hospital where he later died. His funeral will be on September 4 at Holy Trinity Church, Wordsley. Mr Tipper, who is from Kingswinford, was a member of the Dudley Kingswinford rugby club first team for 13 years. Standing 6ft 4in tall, Mr Tipper, who worked as an air conditioning engineer, took up triathlon after leaving DK’s first team squad in 2002. He later became chairman of the Black Country Triathletes. His devastated wife Mandy said: “He was a best friend, father and husband and he will leave an enormous hole in our lives.”

Lazarus 0
I think sportsmen die all the time - just seems to be high profile at the mo. Wasnt there some african nations cup game where half a dozen players were struck by lightning a few years ago?
