Besty 4
Newcastle have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Ajax for the sale of Spanish striker Albert Luque. Luque, who joined the Magpies from Deportivo La Coruna for £9.5m in 2005, only scored twice last season, both goals coming in the Uefa Cup. The 29-year-old is expected to sign a three-year contract. Luque had expressed an interest in joining Real Betis and had also been linked with a move to PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord, Bordeaux and Barcelona. Luque, whose move will free up funds for Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce, started his career in the Barcelona youth program before moving to Mallorca. He transferred to Deportivo La Coruna in 2002, scoring 26 times in 101 league appearances. He featured in Allardyce's pre-season plans but soon fell behind Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Obafemi Martins and Alan Smith in the striker pecking order at St James' Park. MattM4 0
That line "agrees a fee" fills me with hope we might have managed to squeeze some money of this in the end.
NobbySol 22
Luque who's leaving..... In other words, the career of Albert Luque on Tyneside has come to an end after he signed a three year contract with Ajax of Amsterdam. An undisclosed fee is reported to have been paid for the man who cost us £11.4m (not the £9.5m originally quoted) when he signed from Deportivo La Coruna in August 2005. Fourteen starts and twenty appearances as a sub in all competitions harvested three goals - an Intertoto effort at the Gallowgate End against Lillestrom, the winner in Palermo and the fourth at the mackems. The player had been quoted earlier in the week expressing an interest in joining Real Betis, but is reported to have opted in the end not to pusue a return to Spain .com says we paid 11.4m for the wanker
ewerk 31600
£11.4m? Well I suppose when you take into account the 'agent's fees' and money which may have disappeared it may have come to around that figure.
