I want Flo to win it. It's not likely, but it'd be great if she did.

Isn't Flo a bit contemporary for you?

I agree like, her album is outstanding. IMO best female lead band since Blondie.

? :o I've got contemporary-ness coming out the yingyang my friend. I'm street and that's no lie, bro

To be honest (and I'm aware how wanky it makes me sound) I'm friends with Flo's brother so I've met her a couple of times and she's a really genuine sweet girl, who's as crazy as a pillowcase of rabid mongeese*

* Mongoose, Mongooses, Mongeese? I'm not sure...

You're right it does sound wanky. However she's on Jules Holland tonight and the more I see the band the more impressed I am.

Shortlist announced today.

Every year we have a Mercury thread and every year people say what a load of shite the listed albums are and that they've not heard of half of them.

Anyone being that unoriginal in this thread should hang their heads.

So who do people want to see listed?

Hot Chip, M.I.A....

erm....

Dan Le Sac's isn't as good as his first but I'm struggling for others.

The shortlist's been announced....

Biffy Clyro – 'Only Revolutions'

Corinne Bailey Rae – 'The Sea'

Dizzee Rascal – 'Tongue N' Cheek'

Kit Downes Trio – 'Golden'

Foals – 'Total Life Forever'

I Am Kloot – 'Sky At Night'

Laura Marling – 'I Speak Because I Can'

Mumford And Sons – 'Sigh No More'

Paul Weller – 'Wake Up The Nation'

Villagers – 'Becoming A Jackal'

Wild Beasts – 'Two Dancers'

The XX – 'XX'

Most pop filled list I've seen that like.

Fine Mr Face.

I'll have a listen to them all first.

I preferred Biffys previous album. I don't mind Mumford's one. But I think I've only heard bits of the Dizzy's one from the rest of the list.

Who do you think should win and who do you think will win?

There's a couple I've not heard, but my favourite from those I have would be Dizzee rascal.

I think Mumford and Sons will win it though. They're on the up more than any of the others and Mercury like to ride the crest of a wave when they can.

Biffy are fucking shite now IMO. I like Mumford and Sons' album but I prefer Laura Marling's more. The XX is very good but I can't see it winning the Mercury Prize. I'm going for Mumford along with Happy. An outside bet of Weller.

The XX for me.

An Irish band. I can't make my mind up on them.

A couple of cracking tunes, the singers voice can get a bit grating though.

I don't like Biffy, I'm really starting to like Dizzy though. Dizzee.
